General Description and Qualifications
The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department (GCPRD) has a long history of providing high quality recreation-based summer camp and afterschool enrichment programs for students in the South Western City School District. Youth Development Team members help create a safe, supportive and engaging environment where students can grow socially, emotionally, and physically through structured activities, free play, and positive mentorship. We are currently seeking caring, motivated and enthusiastic individuals to serve as Site Manager for our Summer Camp programs. This is a part-time, Monday through Friday position, to be scheduled up to 28 hours per week during the months of June, July, and August.
The Summer Camp Site Manager, under the immediate supervision of the Youth Development Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization, and execution of a well-balanced, diversified program of activities that support positive youth development programs and staff. The Summer Camp Site Manager shall be chosen solely on the basis of their enthusiasm for working with children and relevant training and work experience. The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing both child supervision and staff management. They serve as a primary point of communication for parents and handle a variety of administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years of age and has a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must maintain reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
  • Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
  • Has the ability to follow direction, provide necessary services, and enforce stated rules and regulations.
  • Has the ability to direct, train, coordinate, schedule and evaluate the performance of others.
  • Has the ability to plan and provide appropriate school age activities and have a basic understanding of child development and group management.
  • Can remain physically active (stand, walk, crouch, kneel, bend, play games) with children for three or more hours in varying weather conditions.
  • Experience with school aged children preferred.
  • College degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Recreation, or another related field preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
  • The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.

Essential Functions of the Position
The Summer Camp Site Manager, under the supervision of the Youth Development Recreation Coordinator, shall:
  • Represent the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and Youth Development programs in a positive, professional, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Supervise, coach, and train Youth Development Leaders and model leadership in all aspects of the job.
  • Responsible for all daily operations reports, and recordkeeping and turning in weekly paperwork such as injury and accident reports and attendance rosters with a high standard of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Supervise a team of Youth Development Leaders to create an environment where children can learn about themselves, interact with peers, and experience success.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, patience, and a positive attitude.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship between Youth Development staff and school personnel including principals, secretaries, custodians, and teachers by weekly check-ins, and making the school aware of any special events, speakers, or activities.
  • Ensure positive family communication by developing a family communication area at each site, along with greeting each child and family professionally.
  • Supervise and monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Implement positive behavior management including clear and consistent expectations for behavior, positive feedback, and appropriate redirection.
  • Actively interact with children individually while maintaining effective supervision control of the entire group.
  • Plan and lead staff meetings, attend Site Manager meetings, and participate in all training sessions, including CPR, first aid, AED, communicable disease prevention, and child abuse recognition, as provided by the city.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of agreed upon shared space and materials.
  • Adhere to all Youth Development program policies and procedures as outlined in the staff and parent handbook.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.

Working Conditions and Equipment Operated
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); chemicals found in an aquatic environment; ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely required to stand, walk, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl on even and uneven surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics, Licensure and/or Certification
  • At least 18 years old and a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Must commit to working all of the summer programming (5 days of unpaid vacation is allowed).

Current adult, child, and infant CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 60 days of hire at the City's expense.
