Is UI/UX replaced by AI?

UI/UX designers, including those with no experience, focus on creating user-centered digital experiences. While AI tools can assist with tasks like prototyping and data analysis, they do not replace the need for human designers to understand user needs, conduct research, and craft intuitive interfaces. AI is a complement that enhances design workflows but does not eliminate the role of a designer.

Job Description:
Job Title: UI/UX Designer IV
Location: Remote (OH, US)
Pay Range: $55-$56
Length: 6 months
Senior User Experience (UX) Designer
We are seeking a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer who is passionate about leading and applying a user-centered approach to product development. This role leverages research insights to design web and mobile solutions that support K-12 curriculum experiences through close collaboration with cross-functional partners, including business stakeholders, content and digital strategy, learning science, research and analytics, accessibility-focused product management, and engineering teams.
A Continuous Discovery framework underpins this work, emphasizing collaboration with research partners to conduct human-centered design activities and deliver high-quality, accessible design solutions.
The organization is committed to creating instructional experiences that unlock the full potential of learners by delivering products that are intuitive, engaging, efficient, and effective-grounded in research and best practices.
Detailed Description
You are a design professional who operates at the intersection of empathy and technology. You will develop thoughtful design solutions that balance business needs, technical capabilities, and user feedback. Your focus will include information architecture, user flow design, and interaction design to support the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and highly usable user experiences.
You will independently manage UX responsibilities within an assigned workstream and collaborate closely with Technical Product Managers, Project Managers, and Engineering partners. You will also partner with a design strategist and/or lead designer to align work to a broader product platform strategy and long-term vision.
This role functions within Agile product teams, where you will champion human-centered design principles and help shape design practices that integrate effectively with Agile methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a change agent by evangelizing human-centered design methodologies and practices across the organization, supporting cross-functional teams at varying levels of design maturity
  • Solve complex design challenges while driving multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Approach each project with consideration for the broader platform experience and overall business model
  • Develop a deep understanding of how products connect across the platform and remain mindful of user journey touchpoints beyond individual product areas
  • In collaboration with UX Research partners, analyze existing user research, metrics, and insights, balancing data with intuition to translate user needs into tangible design solutions
  • Design and build user flows, wireframes, concepts, and interactive prototypes to support research efforts, define development requirements, and inform technical decisions
  • Confidently present designs to peers, stakeholders, and leadership, clearly articulating rationale and design decisions
  • Build presentations and lead experience-focused discussions with stakeholders, driving feedback and alignment on next steps
  • Define consistent design patterns grounded in research and industry best practices
  • Advocate for and contribute to pattern-based system design, including UX standards, styles, guidelines, and the evolution of a scalable, accessible design system
Job Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
  • Portfolio demonstrating UX design work across web and mobile platforms, with clear visibility into process, research integration, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Visual Communication, Digital Design, Product Design, Human-Centered Design, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in product development, user experience design, product design, or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of usability principles, interaction design, and current UX/UI trends
  • Proven success leading design efforts across multiple products or initiatives toward cohesive solutions
  • Extensive experience creating low- and high-fidelity sketches, prototypes, and design documentation
  • Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Advanced proficiency with UX design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Axure, Penpot)
  • Deep understanding of responsive design principles
  • Working knowledge of accessibility guidelines and inclusive design best practices
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile environments
  • Ability to understand user needs, behaviors, and motivations and translate them into effective design concepts
