Job description

Mobile Application Developer (Logistics) Description

A Mobile Application Developer for logistics creates and maintains mobile software (smartphone or rugged device apps) that empower supply chain operations on-the-go. These apps may include warehouse scanning tools, delivery driver apps, freight tracking, or inventory management on mobile platforms. This is typically a full-time role within a tech team or a contract engagement for a specific project. The developer works closely with supply chain stakeholders to ensure mobile solutions improve productivity and data visibility in real-time.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain mobile applications for supply chain use cases, such as warehouse barcode scanning apps, driver delivery apps (for e-signatures, route info), or inventory lookup tools. Design intuitive user interfaces (UI) and experiences (UX) suitable for workers in the field or on the warehouse floor (e.g., large buttons for gloves, offline modes for low connectivity). Integrate mobile apps with back-end logistics systems via APIs – ensuring data from the app (scans, GPS, updates) syncs with WMS, TMS, or ERP in real time. Implement device features like camera/barcode scanning, RFID/NFC reading, GPS tracking, and push notifications to support logistics tasks (proof-of-delivery capture, tracking shipments, etc.). Optimize application performance and reliability, particularly for rugged or low-bandwidth environments (e.g., caching data, handling intermittent connectivity gracefully). Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to manage mobile device management (MDM), security of devices (encryption, user auth), and deployment of apps across fleets of devices. Test applications thoroughly (unit, integration, field testing) to ensure they operate correctly on various hardware (Android/iOS devices, rugged scanners) and fix bugs rapidly. Work with end-users (warehouse associates, drivers) to gather feedback and continuously improve app features for usability and productivity gains. Stay updated on mobile development frameworks and technologies (e.g., cross-platform tools, new Android/iOS features) and how they can be applied to logistics solutions. Document technical design, deployment procedures, and provide training or support documentation for users and help-desk for the mobile tools.

Requirements

Skill Tags: Mobile Development, Android (Kotlin/Java), iOS (Swift/Objective-C), React Native / Flutter, API Integration, UI/UX Design, Barcode Scanning, RFID, GPS Tracking, Offline Functionality, Firebase/Azure Mobile Services, JSON/REST, Agile/Scrum, Git, Push Notifications, MDM Solutions (SOTI, AirWatch), Device Security, Problem-Solving, Communication, Logistics Processes, Warehouse Operations, User Training, Debugging, Performance Optimization.
