Safety Specialist - Manufacturing
Position Title: Safety Specialist - Manufacturing
Reports To: Plant Manager
Company: American Pan Company
Location: Urbana, OH (On-Site)

Position Summary
The Safety Specialist for Manufacturing reports to the American Pan Plant Manager and oversees the daily execution of occupational health and safety protocols on the production floor to maintain compliance, eliminate hazards, prevent injuries, and help drive the safety-first culture. Also responsible for duties related to the environmental health of each location.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Develop and monitor programs to ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA's General Industry Rules & Regulations.
  • Administer the Powered Industrial Truck operator's certification program.
  • Experience in OSHA record keeping and training in various programs, including lockout/tagout, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, injury reporting, and other related programs.
  • Experience in all areas of OSHA site inspections.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to detect existing or potential health and safety hazards, identify risk behaviors, and determine corrective action or preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Ability to perform equipment inspections and have extensive knowledge and experience working with Mechanical Power Presses, Punch Presses, Brake Presses, Hydraulic Presses, Laser Manufacturing, and Welding to maintain OSHA compliance and operator safety.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Machine Guarding. Perform work-related accident investigations to determine the root cause and corrective action.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims activities with Human Resources.
  • Assist in the adaptation of a safety-first culture.
  • Work closely with the Coatings Safety Supervisor to make sure training programs, recordkeeping, and compliance are consistent throughout all companies.
  • Train to serve as backup to the Coatings Safety Supervisor as needed.
  • Proactive approach and strong participative leadership style. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.
  • Organize and execute facility-wide emergency response drills and maintain all warning signs and alarm systems within the plant.
  • Keep current on training and knowledge as it relates to OSHA compliance annually.
  • Must work full-time onsite.
  • Occasional travel to other manufacturing sites within the company.
  • Must keep current on all environmental-related reporting, permits, issues/concerns related to each location.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have great interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a proven leader.
  • Must be able to develop and complete tasks without direct supervision on time.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must have strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Must have a willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety preferred. Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on safety coordination experience specifically within a manufacturing or production environment required, with 5+ years of hands-on Mechanical Power experience preferred but will consider a non-degree candidate with extensive work experience and a proven safety track record in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required
  • Previous experience dealing with OSHA.
  • Strong knowledge of developing and implementing training programs.
  • Other safety duties may be assigned by the plant manager or upper management.
