Job Title:
Research Scientist - Molecular Medicine & Therapeutics
Department:
Medicine | Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics
Research Scientist will serve as an expert and scientific resource in cancer genomics, computational biology, and translational oncology within the OSUCCC research environment. This position will conceptualize, design, implement, evaluate, and direct independent and collaborative cancer research projects, including studies focused on tumor biology, molecular subtyping, cancer susceptibility, genomic instability, transcriptomic profiling, and integrative multi-omics analysis.
The Research Scientist will develop hypotheses and experimental or analytical strategies for hypothesis testing; establish, adopt, and optimize laboratory and computational methods; manage and oversee research methodologies used for data generation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting; and provide scientific guidance on experimental design, molecular biology approaches, cancer genomics workflows, bioinformatics pipelines, and emerging technologies.
The position will participate as a key member of multidisciplinary research teams, collaborate with investigators to determine research priorities and plan research programs, interpret complex biological and genomic data, troubleshoot scientific and technical problems, and contribute to the development of new research directions. The Research Scientist will keep current with relevant published literature, identify new methodological and conceptual advances in cancer research, and make recommendations regarding research strategies and analytical procedures.
The Research Scientist will develop and write research manuscripts, abstracts, project reports, and grant proposals; present ongoing work and findings at institutional, national, and international conferences; and contribute to educational workshops, lectures, and seminars. The position may develop, write, and submit extramural grant proposals as principal investigator, co-investigator, or key personnel, as appropriate under institutional policy, to obtain salary and research support from external funding agencies. The Research Scientist may also administer grants, assist with budget management, and contribute to progress reports and regulatory or compliance documentation.
The Research Scientist will supervise, mentor, and train junior investigators, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, research staff, and technicians within the laboratory or collaborative research team. This includes advising on research design, molecular and computational methods, data analysis, interpretation of results, manuscript preparation, presentation development, and career development.
Education and Experience
Doctoral degree required in cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, biomedical sciences, or a related field. Four+ years of genomics and/or molecular research required. Translational experience from bench work to patient-related experience is a plus.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to function as a competent, productive, and independent researcher. Evidence may include peer-reviewed publications of significant interest and value to the field; favorable peer review; citation by other investigators; presentations at professional societies or national/international conferences; development of new analytical methods, experimental approaches, datasets, or research resources; contribution to grant-funded research programs; and demonstrated ability to solve important biological, translational, or applied research problems.
Experience in cancer genomics, transcriptomics, molecular biology, murine or preclinical cancer models, human cancer datasets, next-generation sequencing analysis, multi-omics integration, or computational biology is preferred. Experience with manuscript preparation, grant writing, collaborative project leadership, and mentoring of trainees or research staff is also preferred.
