Job description

Substitute teachers play a crucial role in the educational process by ensuring the continuity of instruction in the absence of regular classroom teachers.  They are responsible for maintaining a safe and productive learning environment and delivering lesson plans to students in grade k-12.
Working as a substitute teacher can be a rewarding experience, allowing you to make a positive impact on students' education and gain valuable classroom experience.  It is essential to be adaptable and responsive to the unique challenges and opportunities that each day in the classroom may present.
Substitute pay at SWL Schools starts at $135 per day and can grow to $200 based upon days worked per year. 
Location varies based on need.  
Key Responsibilities:
1.  Classroom Management:









  • Maintain classroom discipline and create a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Enforce school and district policies and rules.
  • Manage student behavior and resolve conflicts as necessary.

2.  Lesson Delivery:

  • Implement lesson plans left by the absent teacher, ensuring students receive appropriate instruction.
  • Adapt instructional materials to meet the needs of diverse students, as needed.
  • Facilitate classroom activities, discussions, and assessments as directed.

3.  Support Student Learning:

  • Assist students with questions and provide guidance in completing assignments.
  • Address individual learning needs and provide additional help as required.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere in the classroom.

4.  Attendance and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate attendance records for the class.
  • Report any issues or incidents to the school administration or regular teachers.

5.  Classroom Environment:

  • Set up and maintain a safe and organized classroom.
  • Ensure that all materials and equipment are used appropriately.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement.

6.  Professionalism:

  • Arrive on time and be prepared for the assigned classes.
  • Dress and conduct oneself in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Collaborate with school staff and fellow educators.

7.  Follow District Procedures:

  • Comply with district policies and procedures related to substitute teaching.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions as directed.
  • Be aware of emergency procedures and follow them in case of an emergency.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or high school diploma
  • Teaching license or substitute teacher license
  • Classroom management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Patience, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
