Job Description Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure smooth operation of the shift, and to provide functional supervision to Laboratory Assistants, both general and technical.

Responsibilities And Duties:

Coordinate shift activities 1. Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage; recommend staffing adjustments based on customer needs and workload data and time standards. 2. Assign duties, reassign tasks as needed during the shift; supervise and counsel staff; provide input on performance for annual appraisals; perform staff competency assessment at least annually. 3. Act as liaison between lab assistants and technologist assuring an efficient work flow between lab assistant and technical areas. 4. Act as a resource person for lab assistants, answering questions of policy and procedure specimen requirements, equipment troubleshooting and maintenance, etc. 5. Document all activities as appropriate.

Monitor workflow using on-line systems; verify collection and receipt of specimen, adjust workload to ensure equitable division of labor. Recommend to the manger ways to streamline operations and also solutions to problematic areas.

Maintain competency in basic and technical lab assistant duties. Ensure adequate training of all Laboratory Assistants for collection and processing specimens plus all other duties technical or non-technical. Training includes orientation, monitoring and competency checks of staff. Assumes the leadership role in the area in the absence f manager and supervisor.

Maintain procedure manual; document incidents; track variance activities and assists in development of solutions; plan and implement continuous improvement monitors.
As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School or GED (Required)DL - Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles

Additional Job Description:

General science emphasis; or one to three months related Experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of and Experience . Data entry skills; organizational skills and ability to work under stressful conditions; requires the capacity to work in a high risk department in an environment with equanimity, precision and attention to detail; good communication skills, to include effective speech delivery and telephone skills. Three years in a high volume environment.
