The asset management team is responsible for managing and monitoring a multi-billion-dollar loan portfolio secured by real estate properties located across the United States. To be successful in the role, excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills are required. Desired experience includes a commercial real estate background with an emphasis in the interpretation of loan documents, analysis of operating statements, and the ability to prioritize assignments in an effective manner to support both internal and external stakeholders/customers.

The Real Estate Deal Analyst - Investment Professional position is primarily responsible for sourcing, analyzing, and underwriting Commercial Mortgage loans and mezz/equity investments. Prepare various market reports, portfolio analysis, financial analysis and modeling, and investment recommendations for management evaluation, as well as portfolio surveillance and monitoring. The role is both internal and outward facing through interactions with existing relationships, building new relationships.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, underwrite, and negotiate real estate fund investments for presentation to senior management.
  • Underwrite the real estate deals (including property or fund analysis, market analysis, as well as financial analysis and modeling), borrower, business plan, exit strategy, etc.
  • Support the negotiation of routine deal terms under the general guidance of senior staff taking into consideration concentration risk, credit parameters, and fee structure; Prepare and present investment recommendations.
  • Work with internal and external legal counsel to coordinate closings (including negotiating, reviewing, and approving transaction documents and other due diligence items).
  • Support the development of working relationship with mortgage correspondents, brokers, fund managers and existing and potential sponsors/borrowers to source investment opportunities.
  • Data entry (spreadsheets, asset management systems, website), file management, and post-closing follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate Investment Research, Real Estate Portfolio Managers, Real Estate Risk, Enterprise Portfolio Management, Investment Risk Management, and Legal Representation (internal and external).
  • Assist in portfolio surveillance and portfolio monitoring activities (fund manager shadowing), including risk mitigation initiatives.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Senior Investment Professional
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree in business, finance and/or real estate. Graduate degree and/or CFA/CAIA designation preferred (but not required)
Experience: 6 to 10 years of investment experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Real estate principles and practices, such as underwriting/valuation, various debt/equity structures and legal documentation (subscription agreements).
  • Practical understanding of market dynamics.
  • Candidates must have prior commercial real estate experience.
  • Candidates will possess strong communication skills, can work independently, and can demonstrate the ability to assess stakeholder needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills are needed to meet internal/external expectations.
  • Strong real estate underwriting skills are preferred.
  • Must be proficient with spreadsheet software and general computer software applications.
  • Solid interpersonal and negotiation skills are necessary for working with loan correspondents, borrowers and internal clients.
  • Diligent organizational and record keeping skills are needed for successful portfolio management and process tracking.
  • High attention to detail is required.
  • Must be an independent and creative thinker, a self-starter, extremely proactive and demonstrate a high ability to learn on the fly.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
