Job description

Quality Control (QC) Engineer
We have been retained by a leading commercial general contractor in Columbus, OH seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Control (QC) Engineer to join their team. As the on-site champion for quality, you will be responsible for ensuring that all work and materials conform to the project's contractual requirements, plans, and specifications. You will play a critical role in upholding our reputation for excellence by identifying and resolving quality issues, minimizing rework, and ensuring a safe and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement Quality Plan: Develop, review, and implement the project-specific Quality Control Plan (QCP) to ensure compliance with all specifications and standards.
  • Daily Site Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of all construction activities to verify that workmanship and materials meet or exceed the project's quality standards. This includes foundations, structural steel, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) installations, and architectural finishes.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Meticulously document all inspections, tests, and quality-related activities in detailed daily reports. Maintain a log of all non-conforming work and track it to resolution.
  • Material Verification: Inspect and approve all incoming materials to ensure they match project submittals and are free from defects.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify, document, and formally issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for any deficient work. Collaborate with superintendents and subcontractors to ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified.
  • Testing Coordination: Schedule and coordinate with third-party testing agencies for required material tests (e.g., concrete cylinder breaks, soil compaction, weld inspections) and witness all testing procedures.
  • Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact for all on-site quality matters, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, and client representatives.
  • Punch List Management: Assist in the development and closeout of project punch lists to ensure a smooth and timely project turnover.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a quality control role within the commercial construction industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project submittals.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with proficiency in creating detailed reports and correspondence.
  • Proficient in using construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid).
  • High attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
