Job description

We are now looking for a skilled and experienced Construction Grading Foreman to lead our grading operations on construction sites! The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.Core Responsibilities

Mill & Prep Operations Leadership:

  • Lead daily milling and roadway preparation activities, coordinating personnel, equipment, and resources to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
  • Oversee grading, base repair, surface correction, and asphalt preparation operations.

Equipment Operations & Production Management:

  • Direct and support the operation of milling machines, motor graders, dozers, rollers, skid steers, and other roadway construction equipment.
  • Monitor production rates, equipment utilization, and crew performance to maximize efficiency and quality.

Roadway Grading & Surface Preparation:

  • Utilize expertise in grading, slope control, drainage, and roadway profile correction to ensure surfaces are properly prepared for asphalt placement.
  • Verify work meets project specifications and paving requirements.

Blueprint Interpretation & Project Coordination:

  • Read and interpret plans, grade stakes, project specifications, and paving requirements.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, paving crews, trucking operations, subcontractors, and inspectors to maintain project timelines.

Crew Leadership & Workforce Development:

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate mill and prep crew personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement while developing operator and laborer skillsets.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Promote and enforce OSHA regulations, company safety standards, traffic control requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments to maintain a safe working environment.

Quality Control & Problem Resolution:

  • Inspect roadway preparation work to ensure proper grade, compaction, and surface conditions prior to paving operations.
  • Quickly identify and resolve field challenges that could impact quality, production, or project schedules.

Equipment Maintenance & Asset Management:

  • Coordinate daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Monitor equipment condition and communicate repair needs to minimize downtime and support operational reliability.

Communication & Team Collaboration:

  • Serve as the primary point of communication between field crews, superintendents, project managers, and paving operations.
  • Provide clear direction and maintain alignment on production goals, schedules, and project expectations.

Planning, Scheduling & Documentation:

  • Assist with project planning, manpower allocation, and daily scheduling. Maintain accurate records of production activities, equipment utilization, safety documentation, and project progress.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in road construction with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving and construction equipment, methods, and techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, grades, and job specifications.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and company safety standards.

  • Effective leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required).

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and work extended hours during peak season.
