Position: Site Superintendent
Status: Full time, Permanent
Location: Ohio History Center & Ohio Village
Salary: $72,800 - $76,960 per year

Summary:
The Assistant Site Superintendent assists the Site Superintendent with the implementation and management of day-to-day efficient museum operations at Ohio History Center & Ohio Village. Supervises Visitor Services staff, Project Assistant and Maintenance/Custodial operations at Ohio History Center & Ohio Village. The Assistant Site Superintendent also acts as administrative support related to the financial health of the museum, overseeing timely submission of administrative and financial reports and coordinating work efforts with other areas of Ohio History Connection. In addition to managing the Visitor Services team, Project Assistant and the Maintenance & Custodial Team. The Assistant Site Superintendent assumes supervision of all site staff in the site Superintendent's absence.
Essential Functions:
Site Operations & Open Ready Standards
  • Lead daily operations for the Ohio History Center & Ohio Village, ensuring the site is prepared to welcome visitors safely, confidently, accessibly, and effectively.
  • Monitor site readiness, including staffing, visitor flow, public spaces, operational supplies, weather-related adjustments, and coordination with facilities, security, and visitor-facing teams.
  • Identify and communicate operational risks, barriers, or resource needs that affect visitor experience, staff effectiveness, or site readiness.
  • Make timely site-level operational decisions within established policies and delegated authority, including decisions related to staff deployment, visitor flow, weather response, public access, event readiness, and immediate safety concerns.
  • Translate approved organizational, interpretive, programmatic, and campus plans into practical staffing, scheduling, logistics, and operational requirements.

Staff Supervision & Team Culture
  • Hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned staff, including the Interpretive Supervisor and the Assistant Site Superintendent.
  • Build a positive, accountable, service-oriented team culture with clear expectations for communication, decision-making, visitor service, and daily operations.
  • Establish clear roles, escalation expectations, and communication practices across the site team to support consistent decision-making and operational continuity.

Visitor Experience & Interpretation
  • Ensure daily visitor experiences align with approved interpretive plans, visitor experience standards, accessibility expectations, and OHC policies.
  • Coordinate with Public Engagement, American Indian Relations, Collections, Exhibits, and other content-area teams as needed to support accurate, respectful, and engaging visitor experiences.
  • Support high-quality experiences for general visitors, school groups, program participants, community partners, and event audiences.

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Serve as the primary site-level point of coordination for operational issues involving facilities, security, events, programs, marketing, visitor services, and other OHC departments.
  • Convene appropriate site and departmental partners to resolve operational issues, clarify responsibilities, and ensure timely follow-through.
  • Support event and program planning by ensuring site staffing, logistics, visitor flow, and readiness needs are identified and addressed.
  • Coordinate the operations of the Shaping Ohio Show and Exhibition at the Ohio Expo Center, including open hours, staffing, training, and communication with Expo Center staff.

Safety, Security & Stewardship
  • Serve as primary on-site operational lead during emergencies, closures, significant incidents, or unexpected disruptions, coordinating with Security, Facilities, division leadership, and other departments as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with OHC Security and Facilities to support the safety and security of staff, visitors, public spaces, and historic resources.
  • Monitor and report site preservation, maintenance, accessibility, and operational concerns through established processes.
  • Ensure staff understand and follow relevant safety, emergency, and visitor service procedures.

Administration, Reporting & Planning
  • Prepare and submit required plans, reports, and records, including facilities use plans, site monitoring reports, visitation data, purchasing documentation, inventory, and sales operation records.
  • Use data, staff feedback, and visitor experience observations to improve daily operations and inform planning.
  • Prepare and monitor site operating budget; Track expenditures and variances, approve purchases within delegated authority, and communicate emerging resource needs.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in museum studies, history, public history, education, interpretation, park management, nonprofit management, or a related field.. Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in museum, historic site, cultural, park, visitor experience, or public-facing operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum three years supervisory experience required. Demonstrated responsibility for a complex operation, budget, events, safety, and cross-functional coordination.

Work Environment:
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Mix of indoor office and museum work and outdoor visitor interaction work.
  • Frequent walking across large campus; use of stairs and movement across uneven surfaces.
  • Extended periods of standing during events and public operations.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to tolerate cold, heat, and rain.
  • Able to lift typical office items and boxes weighing 25 pounds or less.
