Job description

Overview
Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group is a leader in soil stabilization and ground improvement services, specializing in lime, cement, and other soil treatment solutions that create strong, reliable foundations for construction and infrastructure projects. Our success depends on well-maintained equipment, responsive mechanical support, and skilled field teams to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
We are seeking a skilled Field Mechanic to perform on-site maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of the company's equipment and machinery used in soil stabilization projects. Candidate needs to be a union card holder.
Responsibilities
The Field Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the operational readiness of all field equipment, including mixers, graders, rollers, dozers, excavators, skid steers, spreader trucks, water trucks, and other support vehicles. This role is essential for minimizing downtime and keeping soil stabilization projects on schedule.
The Field Mechanic works directly with operators, teamsters, and project managers to provide timely mechanical support on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on field equipment and vehicles, including heavy machinery and support trucks
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in the field
  • Conduct emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols
  • Conduct safety checks on equipment prior to operation
  • Report unsafe conditions or recurring equipment issues to leadership

Operational Support
  • Work directly with operators and teamsters to support daily field operations
  • Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and transport to project sites
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify potential mechanical improvements
  • Support logistics and fleet teams by coordinating maintenance schedules and prioritizing critical equipment

Tools & Inventory Management
  • Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, and supplies for field repairs
  • Order or request parts and materials as needed to complete repairs
  • Ensure proper storage and care of tools and equipment

Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate repair status, timelines, and operational impact to project managers
  • Provide technical guidance to operators and field staff on equipment use and maintenance

Work closely with fleet and logistics staff to support project schedules
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or mechanical training preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, preferably in construction or soil stabilization
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy machinery
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic issues in the field
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under time-sensitive conditions
  • Must be a union card holder, operators engineers.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment or parts
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, climbing, and standing for long periods

Work Environment
This position operates primarily in field environments, often outdoors on construction or stabilization sites. The Field Mechanic plays a critical role in keeping equipment operational, reducing downtime, and supporting the overall success of Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group projects.
