This position supports Front-End Network (FENW) infrastructure and develops proficiency supporting Back-End Network (BENW) validation activities. The Network Specialist II is expected to independently resolve standard network issues, recognize systemic problems requiring escalation, and provide field guidance to entry-level Network Specialist I personnel.
Key Responsibilities

- Inspect and validate fiber optic backbone systems, copper infrastructure, network cabinets, patch panels, fiber enclosures, structured cabling systems, and network hardware connectivity.
- Confirm activation and turnover readiness, including asset tags, uplinks, circuit integrity, labeling, installation quality, testing, documentation, and customer acceptance requirements.
- Troubleshoot common network and cabling issues including fiber contamination, mispatching, damaged connectors or cabling, polarity issues, improper routing, equipment seating, and labeling discrepancies.
- Perform fiber optic testing using OLTS, OTDR, Optical Power Meters (OPM), Visual Fault Locators (VFL), and digital fiber inspection scopes.
- Interpret OTDR results in identifying connector and splice loss, reflection events, fiber breaks, excessive attenuation, and installation defects.
- Perform Permanent Link testing using One Jumper Reference methodology and validate fiber cleanliness in accordance with applicable ANSI/TIA and IEC standards.
- Perform loopback validation, signal path verification, fiber cleaning, and approved remediation activities.
- Perform basic BERT and circuit audit interpretation, including Bit Error Rate (BER), Forward Error Correction (FEC), port flaps, and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR).
- Complete authorized remediation including connector replacement, re-terminations, patch corrections, labeling corrections, cable routing corrections, and hardware reseats.
- Maintain accurate testing files, reports, ticketing information, asset records, and project documentation.
- Identify recurring or systemic network failures and escalate issues to project leadership or a Hyperscale Network Specialist III when appropriate.
- Provide technical guidance and field support to Hyperscale Network Specialist I personnel.
- Support customer walkdowns, commissioning, turnover inspections, and quality verification activities.
