Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) oncology position requiring at least 1 year of PCU experience and 2 years of total acute care experience, on a night shift rotation.
Details
- Work in a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
- Care for adult patients with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
- Rare pediatric oncology patients may be present but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
- Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Contract may include a rotating day/night schedule based on departmental needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required at time of submission
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA management, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula management, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN or higher (no coworker references accepted)
Additional Information
- Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing to an adult oncology population with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; previous travel experience is preferred but not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
