Job Outputย 

Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Quality Operator is responsible for ensuring product quality at the Powder Coating Line through the use of regular consistent checks via equipment and visual checks. ย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย includesย the following.ย Other duties may be assigned.ย 

General Dutiesย 

  • Commit to and follow the facility Mission, Vision and Values that support the AWI Operating Principles as an individual and team.ย 

  • Attend andย participateย in all required company training programs.ย 

Paint Line Dutiesย 

  • Operate allย quality checkย equipment includingย but not limitedย to:ย colorimeter, gloss meter, viewing board, thickness gauge,ย scratch testing,ย etc.ย ย ย 

  • Operate machinery or stationsas instructed by theย Supervisorย to meet scheduled demands.ย 

  • Support the development of standard recipesย withย the operatorsย on the line.ย ย 

  • Makeย appropriate runningย decisions to prevent excessiveย defects and/or downtime.ย ย 

  • Develop a knowledge ofย the basics of operation ofย each areaย in order toย communicate issues and support troubleshooting.ย ย 

  • Keepย accurateย records of production, waste,ย andย quality checks undertaken.ย 

  • Communicate issues quickly and accurately to the operators,ย supervisor, and plant resources to prevent excessive scrap and downtime.ย ย ย 

Environmental, Health, &ย Safetyย ย 

  • Follow all Company,ย OSHA Safety, and EPA Environmentalย Policies.ย 

  • Always ensuresย personal safe behaviorย andย encouragesย safe behavior in others.ย ย

  • Maintain clean and organized workย area.ย 

  • Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.ย 

  • Report any safety/environmental incidents.ย ย 

Qualityย ย 

  • Maintainย a high levelย of customer focus in producing quality products and services that do not sacrifice the safety of others, oneself, nor the environment.ย 

  • Ensure that the standards for quality, output, safety etc. are adhered to and improved upon.ย 

  • Troubleshoot issues that are within your knowledge and control.ย Decideย quickly to contact more resources for issues outside of your knowledge and control.ย ย 

  • Effective useย and managementย ofย standards and samples.ย ย 

  • Check coating qualityย using visual checksย and quality devicesย at aย regular interval.ย 

  • Support the product hold process when material is out of specification by working with the quality team toย determineย isolationย time frames.ย ย 

  • Monitor aspects of the booth that could affectย the productย quality using devices, standard work, and knowledge of theย process.ย ย 

  • Understand when a powder isย ofย standardย qualityย or ofย good qualityย vsย when there is an issue that needs to beย addressed.ย 

  • Create and/orย improveย uponย standard work processes including but not limited to:ย 

  • Start Upย 

  • Shut Downย 

  • While Runningย 

  • Change Oversย 

  • Troubleshootingย 

  • Downdayย

  • Looks for projects or methods to reduce cost without sacrificing the quality of the parts.ย ย

Qualificationsย ย

  • Understand your internal customer base (Sublimation Line,ย Assembly, and Crating).ย Be customer oriented;ย possessย the ability toย react to theย customers' needs while following company procedures.ย 

  • Direct knowledge andย demonstratedย understanding ofย Johnstown plant productsย and processes is preferred.ย ย 

  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing materials, fabrication processes, and machinery preferred.ย ย 

  • Must beย flexible and be able to respond with a positive attitude to changing demands and conditions.ย ย ย 

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with manyย areas of the plant/company during meetings, presentations, and variousย conversationsย on and off the floor.ย ย 

  • Attention to detailย and understand/adjusting toย minor detail changes.ย ย 

  • Ability to learn how toย operateย a forklift and other company vehicles.ย
