Job description

Flatbed Die Cutter Operator

Position Summary
Middlestreet Graphics & Displays is seeking an experienced and dependable Flatbed Die Cutter Operator to join our production team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating automatic flatbed die-cutting equipment and possess a strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement. Experience operating Young Shin flatbed die cutters is preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain automatic flatbed die-cutting equipment.
  • Perform machine setups, changeovers, make-ready procedures, routine adjustments, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient production.
  • Read and interpret job tickets, structural drawings, layouts, and production specifications to ensure accurate setup and production.
  • Inspect finished products to verify they meet customer specifications and MGD quality standards.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance and promptly report mechanical issues to management.
  • Perform minor die repairs and adjustments, including replacing or modifying creasing rules and cutting knives.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and maintenance records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across all departments to maximize production efficiency and meet customer deadlines.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance to support production schedules.
  • Follow all company policies, work instructions, quality standards, safety procedures, and environmental guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience operating automatic flatbed die-cutting equipment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience operating Young Shin flatbed die-cutting equipment is preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets, structural drawings, layouts, and production specifications.
  • Working knowledge of preventive machine maintenance and safe operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform minor die repairs and adjustments, including replacing creasing rules and cutting knives.

  • Ability to recognize and correct common die-cutting defects, including:
    • Cracking
    • Heavy scores
    • Registration/alignment issues
    • Tearing
  • Experience using a pre-make-ready table.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment, including rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the POP display, packaging, or commercial printing industry.
  • Experience operating Young Shin, Bobst, Iberica, or similar automatic flatbed die-cutting equipment.
  • Knowledge of paperboard, corrugated materials, and display manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
