Genesis10 is seeking a Lead Data Engineer. This is a hybrid 3-month contract-to-hire position with a client located in Columbus, OH. Data Engineer Lead plays a pivotal role in building and operationalizing the minimally inclusive data necessary for the enterprise data and analytics initiatives, following industry standard practices and tools, as well as being interested in leading and developing current team members, while also serving as a technical leader. This position primarily leads the building, managing, and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into production for key data and analytics consumers like business/data analysts, data scientists, or any persona that needs curated data for data and analytics use cases across the enterprise. This role will also test for data quality to ensure data conforms to business rules and is accurate, complete, consistent, and uniform.
Primary Responsibilities: - Architect, build, and maintain data pipelines
- Assist with modernizing the data management infrastructure to drive automation in data integration and management
- Partner with data science teams and business analysts to refine data requirements for analytics initiatives and data consumption needs
- Train team members across the organization on data pipeline development and data preparation techniques to improve data integration and consumption
- Collaborate with data governance teams to review, validate, and promote business and data science assets into the curated data catalog for governed reuse
- Communicate complex technical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Work effectively both independently and collaboratively across multiple initiatives while meeting aggressive timelines
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members while fostering professional growth
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and delivered solutions meet organizational needs
- Anticipate and evaluate emerging technology trends and assess their potential business impact
- Coach team members through organizational and technical change while serving as a role model
- Perform other duties as assigned
Core Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in data management disciplines, including data integration, data modeling, data optimization, data quality, and other areas related to data engineering
- 7+ years of experience with database programming languages and advanced analytics
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining production ETL/ELT pipelines
- Experience with enterprise cloud platforms, preferably AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively while meeting aggressive deadlines
- Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a focus on business outcomes
- Professional presence with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships
- Ability to mentor and train junior team members
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with data testing and validation
- Experience using data preparation tools
- Extensive experience with data engineering technologies such as AWS Glue, Lambda, Athena, and other AWS services
- Expert knowledge of business intelligence (BI) tools
- Expert experience with open-source and commercial data science platforms
- Experience working in Agile environments
- Strong understanding of data management architectures, frameworks, and best practices
- Proven ability to design, build, optimize, and manage scalable data pipelines
- Experience working with large, complex, and heterogeneous datasets to build optimized data pipelines and integrated datasets
- Demonstrated ability to extract business value from large and diverse datasets
- Experience with DevOps practices, including version control, automated builds, testing, and release management
- Financial services industry experience preferred
