WHAT YOU WILL DO:
We are seeking a skilled and meticulous Tier 2 Data Center Fiber Technician to support the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and structured cabling infrastructure within a critical data center environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and performance of fiber connectivity across the facility while supporting infrastructure deployments, Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs), and data center migration projects. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and experience working within live production environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fiber Infrastructure Support
  • Install, terminate, splice, and test single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling.
  • Perform fiber patching, cross-connects, cable routing, labelling, and cable management activities.
  • Maintain high standards of cabling installation in accordance with industry's best practices and data center standards.
  • Support structured cabling deployments and infrastructure expansion projects.

Network & Data Center Operations
  • Perform rack-and-stack activities for network, storage, and server equipment.
  • Assist with data center deployment, migration, and implementation projects.
  • Support network infrastructure installations and connectivity requirements.
  • Executes Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs) activities while minimizing operational impact.

Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Evaluate. Test and certify fiber links using OTDRs, light source and power meters, VFLs, and other industry-standard testing tools.
  • Diagnosing and resolving fiber connectivity issues, signal degradation, and physical layer faults.
  • Escalate complex infrastructure or network issues where required and provide detailed troubleshooting information.
  • Ensure fiber connectivity meets operational and performance requirements.

Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate installation records, test reports, patching schedules, and asset documentation.
  • Update network diagrams, cable schedules, and infrastructure databases as required.
  • Follow all data center operational procedures, security protocols, and change management processes.
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate with network engineers, project managers, implementation teams, and third-party vendors.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during infrastructure deployments and maintenance activities.
  • Communicate effectively with operational teams regarding project status, incidents, and planned work.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Proven experience as a Fiber Technician within a data center, telecommunications, enterprise IT, or critical infrastructure environment.
  • Hands-on experience installing, terminating, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cabling.
  • Experience working with both single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems.
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling standards and best practices.
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings, floor plans, rack layouts, and cabling schematics.
  • Familiarity with data center operations, changing management processes, and critical environment procedures.
  • Experience supporting live production environments with minimal disruption to services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) or equivalent certification
  • ECS or CSCS Card (where applicable)
  • Vendor-specific fiber optic training and certifications
  • Experience within hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation data centers.
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure including switches, routers, and patching environments

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and more than 20 inches, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Ability to identify colors and give and receive information through speaking and listening skills.
  • Regular requirements to sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequent need to stand and walk; occasional need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend
