Job Summary:

The primary role of the EMS Research Fellow is to support the National Registry’s Research Department in the conceptualization, development, data collection, analysis, construction, review, and submission of EMS research, based on the National Registry’s research priorities. This role also supports the business side of the National Registry by conceptualizing, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating business-related data to inform National Registry processes. Tenure in the Fellowship is dependent on continuing progress toward a terminal academic degree (Ph.D.). 


Mission:

The EMS Research Fellow supports the mission of the National Registry by contributing to research, data analysis, and evidence-based decision-making that strengthen the assessment of clinical competence across the EMS profession. Through research design, statistical analysis, reporting, and collaboration with stakeholders and leadership, the position helps advance examination quality, inform organizational strategy, and support continuous improvement. The role also supports professional partnerships and the advancement of EMS knowledge by contributing to peer-reviewed research, industry collaboration, and data-driven insights that benefit the EMS community. 

Essential Functions:

  • Creates, enhances, and contributes multiple concurrent research projects through research design, data collection, statistical analysis, dataset programming and validation, and reporting activities.  
  • Assists the Research Director and Research Manager with the development of research manuscripts, rechnical reports, executive summaries, dashboards, and other research deliverables suitable for peer-reviewed publication and stakeholder communication. 
  • Supports measurement and feasibility analyses by analyzing large and complex datasets, identifying trends, transforming data into actionable insights, and assisting leadership with project scoping, prioritization, and evaluation of deliverables and product functionality. 
  • Provides statistical interpretation and research support to leadership, research teams, collaborators, and stakeholders as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with the public, candidates, research collaborators, State EMS Officials, and other stakeholders regarding research activities and findings. Represents the National Registry at professional meetings, conferences, and related events. 
  • Maintains Institutional Review Board ethics training and compliance requirements.


Requirements:

Qualifications: 

  • Unofficial transcripts required (please upload document during application process)
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Public Health, or related field preferred 
  • 4-year degree in a relevant field required 
  • EMS experience required, national certification preferred 1 year of job-related experience preferred. 

Competencies:  

  • Must possess self-awareness to refer difficult cases to the Research Manager and Research Director, where appropriate. 
  • Able to communicate to appropriate personnel for all functions required for statistical analysis and research methodologies. 
  • Able to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.  
  • Strong ability to work as a team and develop strong interpersonal relationships with various relevant stakeholders, including internal and external collaborators and stakeholders.  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 

Other Requirements: 

  • Maintains satisfactory progress toward mutually agreed upon academic goals and remains in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be able to relocate to Columbus, OH, for the duration of the degree program. 
  • Must be able to successfully work in an office environment. 
  • Must be able to travel approximately 10 nights per year.
