Job description

NAMIC Insurance Company (NAMICO), NAMIC's in-house professional liability insurance company, has a new opportunity for an Underwriter Director at our Indianapolis location. Relocation may be considered for qualified candidates. Reporting to the VP - Underwriting & Chief Underwriting Officer, this full-time position will review, evaluate and analyze exposures and coverages in the Professional Liability, Directors & Officers, Cyber Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Trustee & Fiduciary Liability, and Agents Errors & Omissions programs that require independent analysis and exercise of judgment on moderate and complex technical risks.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Receives, analyzes and interprets insurance applications/submission information in conformance with the underwriting rules and guidelines established by the Company, its reinsurers and its servicing carriers.
  •  Determines premiums, limits, deductibles, retentions, endorsements, and identify alternatives and prepare quotes within underwriting authority.  Submits quotes outside of authority level to a referral underwriter; accepts or rejects applications.
  • Documents underwriting files, as appropriate.
  • Communicates with agency personnel regarding status of applications, requests and gathers additional information; prepares specific wording to endorsements as needed and subject to approval of Product Development team.
  • Reviews, evaluates and analyzes files to ensure or determine potential loss exposures as related to premiums, reviews account loss ratio, notes changes to policy and determines action at renewal and communicates applicable action to NIA.
  • Works effectively with other NAMIC departments as needed to properly address the needs of our insureds/NAMIC members.
  • Reviews claim reports and documents the progress of claims in underwriting notes at each renewal.
  • Negotiates and binds facultative reinsurance agreements within authority level.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying underwriting procedures/policies within delegated area of authority preferred.
  • Prefer 4-5 years of insurance experience, preferably in Professional Liability.
  • Prefer thorough knowledge of policy contracts and rating.
