Travel PCU Registered Nurse Job in Columbus, Ohio

Join a busy progressive care environment in Columbus, Ohio, a vibrant city known for its strong healthcare community, lively neighborhoods, and easy access to dining, arts, and entertainment. This travel PCU Registered Nurse opportunity offers the chance to care for adult and geriatric patients with mixed-acuity medical, surgical, and trauma needs while working alongside a supportive interdisciplinary team. Travelers should be comfortable floating within the organization as needed and thriving in a fast-paced stepdown setting.

Job Details
  • Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown
  • Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Setting: Mixed-acuity medicine, surgery, and trauma unit
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating shifts
  • Schedule: Day and night rotations available; approximately 3 shifts per week
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,940 - $2,040
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: September 8, 2026
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Patient Ratio: 4:1 on days, nights, and weekends
  • Float Requirement: Required within the organization as needed
  • Additional Notes: First-time travelers accepted; locals accepted at the same rate
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience
  • Progressive care, stepdown, or PCU experience preferred
  • Active Ohio nursing license required at time of submission
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations
  • Comfortable with rotating shifts and floating to other units as needed
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program required
  • Two professional references required, including at least one manager, director, or supervisor reference
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients with chronic and acute medical conditions in a PCU setting
  • Monitor and manage dysrhythmias and support patients requiring telemetry and stepdown-level care
  • Administer oxygen therapy, nasal cannula support, and peripheral line care and management
  • Use SBAR communication to collaborate effectively with providers and the care team
  • Respond appropriately to rapid response and code situations when needed
  • Follow isolation precautions and infection prevention practices
  • Work collaboratively with respiratory services, IV teams, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other support departments
  • Document accurately in Epic and support efficient medication management workflows
