Job description

Band Assistant (LUTEA Article 28 Supplemental Contracts: Level 3)

  • Compensation: Per LUTEA Supplemental Salary Schedule $2,795.07 - $5,403.79 based on verified paid K-12 public school band experience

Recently the role has been primarily to work with the LU Drumline directly, providing them with large and small group instruction/development as well as equipment management and maintenance (i.e. yearly needs assessment, head changes, harness adjustment, etc). Position typically starts during Pre-Band Camp in July where placement auditions are done for the season. After band camp, this person will arrange a schedule in coordination and direction of the high school principal and band director, but may include attending weekly after school rehearsals, football games, and parades/festivals as scheduled, through the end of the Football Season, with the last obligation usually being the end of season Lions in Concert performance. Outside of working with the Drumline directly, this position will assist the head director with instruction of the ensemble and other duties as requested based on the needs the head director (i.e. part rewrites or full arrangements for songs and cadences, running sectionals/rehearsal, minor instrument repair, working with individuals or small groups, logistics planning, etc).

Band director and teaching in general are jobs that require a broad skill set and may require band assistant to complete a wide scope of duties. The position will work collaboratively with the band director/academic colleague. While the position is very collaborative in nature, the Head Director has the global vision for the program and this position assists in bringing the vision to life!
