Concert Runner information

What is a concert runner?

A Concert Runner is responsible for handling various errands and logistical tasks during a concert or live event. Their duties may include transporting artists or crew, picking up supplies, delivering messages, and assisting with backstage operations. Runners help ensure that everything runs smoothly by handling last-minute requests. The job requires adaptability, reliability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

What does a concert runner do?

A typical day for a Concert Runner begins with meeting the tour manager or production team to review the day’s needs and priorities. Throughout the day, you might handle tasks such as picking up catering, transporting artists or crew, delivering equipment, or making urgent supply runs, all while staying in constant communication with the production staff. The pace is usually fast and unpredictable, requiring flexibility and quick decision-making. Runners often work long hours that can include early mornings or late nights, but each day offers a unique, behind-the-scenes opportunity to be part of a concert’s successful execution. This role also provides valuable exposure to the entertainment industry, teamwork experience, and opportunities for advancement into other production or tour support roles.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a concert runner?

To thrive as a Concert Runner, you need excellent organizational skills, a valid driver’s license, local area knowledge, and a flexible work ethic. Familiarity with mobile communication apps, GPS navigation tools, and expense tracking systems is helpful but formal certifications are not usually required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well under pressure make standout candidates. These qualities enable a Concert Runner to efficiently support touring artists and crews, ensuring smooth event operations in high-paced environments.

How do you get a job as a concert runner?

To become a concert runner, candidates typically need to have good organizational skills, the ability to work in fast-paced environments, and knowledge of event operations. Gaining experience through internships, volunteering at events, or working in entry-level roles in the entertainment industry can improve chances, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
