Job description

A Survey Technician plays a critical role within the Professional Services Group (PSG), bridging the gap between field crews and engineering designs. They conduct survey computations, process field data, and draft technical maps for utility construction and right-of-way projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Processing & Computations: Process daily field data. Perform computations for boundary, topographic, easement, and construction stakeout work.
  • Drafting & Mapping: Utilize AutoCAD to draft maps (subdivision, parcel, etc.) and create detailed survey basemaps and easement exhibits.
  • Research: Interpret deeds, plats, and construction plans. Conduct thorough map and land records research.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with office staff, land surveyors, and field instrument operators.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years of prior land survey drafting and/or CAD experience. (Preferred)
  • Software Skills: Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with Carlson Survey is often preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey specifications and directions.
  • Detail Oriented: High attention to detail with the ability to maintain QA/QC processes and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Advancement & Roles

Depending on the exact branch and project needs, this role can overlap with or feed into adjacent titles such as Land Survey Technician, Survey-Instrument Operator or Utility Engineering Technician, offering excellent career growth within our clients surveying and engineering division.

If you are looking to apply or prepare for this role, let me know:

  • Your level of CAD experience (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)?
  • Your willingness to do field work versus strictly office drafting?
