Job description

Set-Up and Operate Transfer Press and set dies in various machines as needed to produce quality parts and achieve production requirements. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate Transfer Presses.
  • Set dies in various machines as needed including transfer, progressive and secondary presses, measure shut height and adjust ram.
  • Follows blueprints, rough sketches or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately.
  • Uses hand and power tools to shape and smooth metal and to blend seams.
  • Load and unload coils of steel and blanks that are used in the process.
  • Operate crane and forklift as needed.
  • Maintain set-up sheet as required.
  • Verify dimensional integrity of product visually, using micrometers, calipers and gauges.
  • Assist Tool & Die and Maintenance in doing repairs to tooling and machinery as needed. This includes monitoring tools and equipment for wear.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
  • Record all production data needed for inventory control purposes, including good parts, scrap parts and any other data necessary. List any downtime, die changes, equipment failure.
  • Practice proper lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Train new operators as needed.
  • Operate other machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working area.
  • Perform various visual and/or manual activities to inspect or verify the accuracy of a part.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure

Hi-Lo Certification

Crane Certification

Competencies

  • Ability to follow established procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of press controls-parameters and control limits
  • Advanced Crane and Material Handling skills
  • Feeder and straightener basics
  • Problem solving
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 quality standards
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to assembly, pack, and/or grip and operate equipment
  • Communication skills to communicate and interact with all levels of employees
  • Computer literacy skills include the ability to perform basic data entry and to operate visual 'touch screen' display panels.
  • Math skills sufficient to perform department related tasks are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with people

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a manufacturing environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires very frequent visual effort and concentration, and the ability to move throughout the plant. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting and a variety of physical activities.
