CERTIFIED INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing senior-level leadership, strategic oversight, and technical expertise in Building Science and Industrial Hygiene. This role includes managing projects of varying complexity, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving business development, and mentoring staff. Responsibilities encompass advanced industrial hygiene assessments, exposure monitoring, and development of innovative solutions for workplace and building environments. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Sciences Principal.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide senior-level technical expertise and QA/QC review on all Building Sciences and Industrial Hygiene projects
  • Lead development and implementation of industrial hygiene programs, including chemical exposure assessments, noise monitoring, ergonomic evaluations, and respiratory protection programs
  • Oversee professional-level technical and administrative staff to achieve objectives and deadlines
  • Drive business development initiatives: identify new opportunities, prepare proposals, and maintain client relationships
  • Manage project financial performance, budgeting, and strategic resource allocation
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, EPA, and other applicable regulations
  • Select and manage subcontractors; approve purchase orders and invoices.
  • Direct preparation and review of project reports, proposals, and technical presentations
  • Mentor and train staff in advanced industrial hygiene practices and leadership skills
  • Act as liaison with clients and regulatory agencies; interpret regulations and develop compliance strategies
  • Prepare project descriptions and contribute to publishable technical content

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Expert knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, hazardous building materials, and environmental health regulations
  • Ability to develop and implement exposure control strategies and compliance programs
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and client relationship management skills
  • Proficiency with real-time monitoring equipment, data analytics, and digital reporting tools
  • Ability to interpret complex technical data and regulatory requirements

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: B.S. or M.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field

Recommended Experience: 7+ years of experience in environmental consulting including 2 years of management, consulting, and business development

Certifications: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred; Asbestos and Lead licensure; OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification and/or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are a plus

Skills: Exceptional verbal/written communication and strategic planning skills

Additional requirements: Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical

This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long distance drives and air travel may be required.
