Job description

Position Summary:

The Graduate Assistant in the Accessibility Services Office (ASO) works under the supervision of the Accessibility Services Coordinator to assist in the administration of institutional exams as an aspect of accessibility accommodations. Duties include administrative tasks, test proctoring, and interaction with examinees, faculty, and staff. Administrative duties include confidential handling of testing materials, filing, maintaining testing schedule, and other clerical tasks as needed. Student employees are trained and supervised to administer exams according to national testing standards to maintain integrity, security, and confidentiality of tests and examinees. Student interaction includes providing a welcoming front desk presence, directing students appropriately, general academic coaching (for which training will be provided), and making appropriate referrals to other ODU support services.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote a positive and professional image on campus; abide by the rules and regulations of the University and model mutual respect and inclusion for all students.
  • Model an appreciation for diversity while understanding individual differences between people.
  • Work to ensure that ODU policies are uniformly and fairly enforced.
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with University and student information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge regarding all support services on campus in order to refer appropriately.
  • Participate in and support the functions of the Accessibility Services Office. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Check students in as they arrive at the Testing Center
  • Maintain organized and quiet atmosphere for testing
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of test materials
  • Work with faculty to obtain materials and return them in a timely manner
  • Actively proctor exams
  • Work with students who are in need of accommodations (extended time, enlarged text, testing software, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials
  • Communicate any issues to the ASO Coordinator
  • Other duties and special projects deemed reasonable and necessary by the ASO Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Master's Degree program at Ohio Dominican University.
  • (Available for 15-20 hours per week, with additional availability during finals week)
  • Prior experience working with students in a supervisory or in a student development role.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word and Excel.
