Job description

Position Description: Purpose
TRC Inc. is seeking an engineer responsible for conducting testing and validation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and active safety features in vehicles. The engineer will be responsible for working with other engineers, project managers, and leaders across the Advanced Mobility Division. They will conduct complex engineering testing and analysis that may implement new standards, protocols, and equipment to validate vehicle performance. Engineers in this role will enjoy a good balance between hands-on work, performing technical analysis, and be responsible for communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions*
Develop and use of test procedures, that relate to component and/or full-scale vehicle testing of active safety systems.
Conduct research and testing relating to a wide variety of motor vehicle safety issues related to the area of active safety and ADAS.
Support the development and evaluation of technical proposals that relate to research and testing of active safety technologies.
Report research and test results in a format that facilitate customer communication.
Drive a vehicle
Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
Operate independently and cohesively in a team environment with customer driven deliverables and milestones

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)
Create detailed cost estimates for tasks
Establish and maintain task schedules and budgets
Write research papers and technical reports
Completion of customer support in a timely, error-free and competitive manner
Work in a team to reach technical project goals
Critically evaluate and correct deficiencies in technical proposals, plans, and reports
Make technical decisions with assistance
Knowledge of vehicle mechanical components and maintenance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate comparable discipline
Technical knowledge to solve tough substantive, work-related problems
Strong communication skills – including oral and written presentations and reports
Excellent computer skills including word processing and data analysis software
MATLAB or Python is preferred for data analysis
Basic project management skills
Working conditions
Standard office, climate-controlled environment
Standard laboratory environment
May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees
May be exposed to inclement weather
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas, oil, and paint
Physical requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds depending on specific group/role. (requirement may be waived if the role does not require heavy lifting)
