Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on innovation across machine design and product development initiatives for our next-generation System Level Test platforms and enabling technologies.

The ideal candidate will work across functional boundaries to identify essential requirements, tradeoffs, and key technical risks. This person will partner closely with external-facing teams such as Product Marketing and Applications to understand customer needs. In parallel, they will collaborate with internal cross-functional product development teams to implement design solutions for risk mitigation, concept selection, and high-volume manufacturing.

  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers supporting the continuous improvement of the Saturn, Titan, Mercury, and Aries systems.
  • Coach, evaluate, and provide feedback to team members throughout the year and through the annual performance review process.
  • Work with team members to create long-term development plans.
  • Manage the team's assignments, priorities, and annual budget.
  • Balance contract and permanent headcount to meet project needs.
  • Manage outsourced engineering teams.
  • Provide guidance through complex situations or conflicting goals.
  • Provide project management leadership.
  • Support continued commercialization of existing products by ensuring they meet the highest level of quality through collaboration with cross-functional teams on issues emerging from the field, contract manufacturer, or supply chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing products by gathering and synthesizing information, formulating and prioritizing long-term projects, and planning with leadership from New Product Development, Supplier, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality, Production, Service Operations, and other groups.
  • Align with cross-functional teams to ensure designs provide value to customers and meet tight project timelines.

All About You

  • Excellent judgment in the presence of competing priorities and incomplete data, with proven ability to make difficult trade-offs.
  • Ability to lead, collaborate, and motivate across functional boundaries with multidisciplinary teams including hardware, software, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing.
  • Good understanding of automation and/or robot design.
  • Training or commensurate experience in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills demonstrated by a track record of analyzing and resolving complex problems in products and processes.
  • Understanding design control concepts, including FMEAs, design input/output, and requirement traceability.
  • Technical proficiency in electro-mechanical products and mechanism design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing processes.
  • Passion for solving tough technical problems and creating elegant, reliable products.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity on short development timelines.
  • Self-driven desire to excel in a fast-paced, small, focused team environment while maintaining a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward, making work interesting, meaningful, and enjoyable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both written and verbal, across all levels and functions, including interacting with suppliers and presenting to technical audiences.
  • Ability to coach, develop, and manage the engineering team through influential leadership, balancing team development objectives with the needs of the organization.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typical minimum of 10 years designing complex commercial mechanical products.
  • Occasional travel to supplier and manufacturing sites may be required.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Mechatronics/automation experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control in a mass production environment is a plus.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting post-market performance through reliability engineering, serviceability design, or field failure analysis.

We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this role is $145,500 - $232,900. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: 

This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
