    Job description

    Job Title: Social Services Assistant

    FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
    Reports to: Service Center Director

    Schedule: TBD
    Supervises: N/A

    Rate of Pay: $16.50 USD

    Closing Date: 07/29/2026

    Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

    • Health, vision, dental, life as well as voluntary life and disability insurance
    • Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)
    • Vacation benefit – 10 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0385 hours for each hour worked, excluding overtime (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment)
    • One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)
    • Pension Plan (after one year of continuous service)

    Position Summary

    The Social Services Assistant will assist on a daily basis to help clients meet their needs within our ability. This position will be responsible for all aspects of food donations, working with volunteers, and keep records for community service workers. This role is primarily based out of Delta Colorado. The employee will work in Delta Monday-Thursday and Montrose on Friday.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • To make sure food pantry and storage units are kept clean and organized
    • To make food boxes and bags for the clients needs
    • Helping with the unloading of the trucks when food is delivered.
    • To assist the Director in helping with commodities and TEFAP
    • To record freezer and refrigeration temperatures
    • Will assist with seasonal activities during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
    • To help with food donations and food bank pick ups from local stores
    • To assist in doing food drives in the community
    • To assist in helping with vouchers for various Army programs
    • Other responsibilities assigned by supervisors

    Education/Experience

    • Must have High School diploma or equivalent

    Skills

    • Posses good customer service
    • Able to follow instructions verbal and written
    • Able to work with Excel and Word
    • To make suggestions to Social Services Director and Corps Officer about what is needed in the food bank

    Qualities

    • Must be 21 years of age
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds consecutively

    Requirements

    Driving

    If the position requires driving:

    The employee must be 21 years old at minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license

    An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies

    This role is primarily based out of Delta Colorado. The employee must be willing work in Delta Monday-Thursday and Montrose on Friday.

    Background Check

    Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies

    Physical

    Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 50 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate telephone, to understand written information
