    Position Purpose

    Under the general supervision of the Social Sciences Department Head: to develop students' skills in their ability to make informed and reasonable decisions, enhance students' sense of their role in relation to the world, and to align students' understanding of the social sciences, democratic values, and citizenship to our Catholic values.

    JOB SUMMARY: 

    • Candidate will be effective in teaching high school students about different aspects of social studies, including history, geography, political sciences, economics, psychology, and cultural diversity.
    • Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy and various resources, versed in selecting instructional goals such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc., designing coherent instruction, and assessing student learning, all to ensure all students are actively engaged in learning.
    • Candidate provides authentic learning experiences that are applicable to the real world, is flexible and responsive to students' diverse needs, and actively engages students in their learning.
    • Candidate will assess students' academic performance, behavior, and social development
    • Candidate will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that caters to diverse learning styles and needs.
    • Candidate will be proficient in preparing and grading exams, assignments, and papers to evaluate students' progress.
    • Candidate will effectively communicate with parents and guardians to discuss students' progress and behavior.
    • Candidate is effective in managing student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
    • Candidate will participate in school activities, faculty meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
    • Candidate should possess a desire to grow through continually updating their teaching skills and develop professionally and be a reflective and collaborative individual.
    • Most importantly, the candidate is expected to adhere to all principles and tenets of the Catholic faith, to maintain a lifestyle that is in full accord with Church teachings, and to always promote the best interests of his or her students and the Roman Catholic Church.
    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Dean of Academics and other administrators as designated by the Head of School.


    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Possess a strong educational background in one or more of the following: history, geography, political science, economics, and psychology.
    • At least 2 years of school-based teaching experience (preferably in Catholic Schools)
    • Minimum requirement:  Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education (with a concentration in Social Sciences) and/or bachelor's degree in one of the Social Sciences  
    • Strong communication (written and oral) and technology skills.
    • Broad field social science teacher with interest in teaching AP US History 

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Illinois State Certification (PEL: Professional Educator's License) as a Secondary Social Studies Teacher required; endorsements in psychology, history, political science, preferred  

    non-educators need not apply.
