Job description

Forklift Driver / Material Handler

A Forklift Driver/Material Handler is responsible for operating material-handling equipment to receive, store, and distribute materials, parts, and supplies, and for utilizingwireless RF scanning equipment to direct the disposition of materials.

Essential Functions

  • Safely and efficiently operate material handling equipment (forklift) to maneuver racks, containers, pallets, and crates.
  • Move, locate, relocate, load, unload, and stack material in the assigned area.
  • Perform routine daily equipment inspections and document those inspections as required on all equipment and escalate issues.
  • Gather finished orders for movement to the outbound shipping area.
  • Ensure product is labelled and free of damages, overages, and shortages.
  • Accurately complete all related paperwork.
  • Adhere to quality and customer service standards set forth by the company.
  • Observe and comply with all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure that materials loaded for transportation are properly stacked and secure.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, including sweeping and removing scrap, pallets, cardboard, etc.
  • Regular and reliable attendance at work.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned based upon business needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in all TVS SCS quality excellence initiatives.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly sits on a powered forklift and is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The associate may occasionally be required to lift 51 pounds, anything greater than 51 pounds requires assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is performed in a busy warehouse environment with high forklift traffic. Warehouses are subject to seasonal temperatures. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and vests are required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); one or all PPE may be required based upon the site requirements.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full Time. Schedule flexibility for extended or unplanned work hours is required.

Travel

No travel is required between locations.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience operating a Sit Down/Stand Up Forklift and/or Reach Truck in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
    OSHA-endorsed forklift certification or ability to become certified
  • Previous use of RF Scanning equipment and use of Warehouse Management system (WMS).
  • Must be able to identify products through reading, interpreting, and scanning pallet information.
  • Ability to understand instructions written in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous use of RF Scanning equipment and use of Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
