Job description

Assistant Professor of Musicology

The Department of Music at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track position in historical musicology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The applicant must have a conferred Ph.D. in their field by September 1, 2027.

The areas of research specialization are twentieth- and twenty-first-century art and/or popular music. Teaching responsibilities include four courses per year, as well as supervising and mentoring Ph.D. students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach students at all levels and cover a range of topics in the history of music, including the required survey course for majors (Western music history since 1820). The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2027.

The expected base pay range for this position is $115,133 - $135,388.
