Position Title: Instructional Support Specialist
Bangor Township Schools is hiring an Instruction Support Specialist for Lincoln Elementary School. The primary function of the Instructional Support Specialist is to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of a K-5 classroom intervention program, provide special instruction to individuals and small groups of students with identified needs, and support academic interventions in the general education classroom.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Teaching, including all courses needed to meet and maintain credential requirements.
  • A valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate, with appropriate K-5 endorsement.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience required.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of elementary school students;
  • Knowledge of child growth and development and behavior characteristics of elementary school students;
  • A minimum of the completion of all student teaching required for the appropriate teaching credential;
  • Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to student educational programming;
  • Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures;
  • Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the general school population;
  • Appearance, grooming and personality that establish a positive example for students. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisor or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic achievement, and classroom performance of the teacher;
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general education periodicals, professional journals, teaching procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence and syllabi. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, students, parents, and the general public;
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve routine problems with minimal supervisory assistance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, with staff and with the community.Ability to perform duties with awareness and consistency to the mission and goals established by the Board of Education;

Report to/Evaluated by: The Instructional Support Specialist is under the immediate supervision of the Curriculum Director.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position may supervise instructional assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times.
Salary: $77,000
Work Days and Schedule: 183 days to follow the school calendar; 5 additional work days in August prior to the start of the school year and 5 additional work days in June, after the end of the school year. Work day schedule 7:45-3:45; can be flexed based on the Principal's discretion.
Essential Duties
  • Provide individualized instruction to students;
  • Provide detailed documentation of student progress;
  • Develop supplementary education for students that serves as a companion to the general curriculum;
  • Ensure instructional design and pedagogical practices that meet the needs of all learners;
  • Assesses student potential and recommends further services;
  • Model intervention strategies to colleagues;
  • Support universal screening for academics;
  • Monitor student progress;
  • Manages curricular resources to support Tier I and Tier II instruction;
  • Participate in data meetings and other learning environments;
  • Work collaboratively to craft and implement Individual Improvement Plans (IRIPs);
  • Communicate with colleagues through a variety of means. Attend parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual student progress and interpret the school program;
  • Participate cooperatively with the principal or his/her designee in the evaluation system by which the Instructional Support Specialist will be evaluated in conformance with district/state guidelines for evaluation;
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required;
  • Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations;
  • Takes in-service training as provided;
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to follow directives from supervisors;
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times;
  • Regular in-person attendance and punctuality are expectations of this position.
