Job description

Job Title: Armed Retail Security Officer (Uniformed)
Job Type: Part Time 24 hours per week
Pay Range: $35.00 per hour
Schedule: Rotated days - Friday to Monday
Position Summary:
We are seeking a professional, observant, and highly responsible Uniformed Armed Security Officer to protect retail assets and deter theft through active patrols, policy enforcement, and lawful detention when required. This role is focused solely on uniformed presence (no plainclothes operations) and is designed to meet the highest standards of safety, legality, and customer respect in accordance with California law. Prior law enforcement or military experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform highly visible, uniformed foot patrols throughout retail locations to deter theft and suspicious behavior.
  • Carry a BSIS-approved firearm while on duty, and follow all applicable safety and use-of-force protocols.
  • Follow the five-step observation process before engaging a suspect:
    1. Positive observation of entry without outside merchandise.
    2. Positive observation of product selection from the retail shelf.
    3. Continuous observation of the suspect throughout the entire incident.
    4. Positive observation of concealment, when applicable (optional if product is not concealed).
    5. Positive observation of bypassing all points of sale without attempting to pay.
  • Upon completing all five observation steps, safely detain suspects and recover merchandise in accordance with company policy and California law.
  • Collaborate with store management, law enforcement, and internal security teams as needed.
  • Complete detailed incident reports and maintain accurate records of all detentions, recoveries, and suspicious activity.
  • Maintain a professional and composed demeanor in high-pressure situations and during all customer interactions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Prior Military or Law Enforcement experience Preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (for armed positions in California).
  • Possess a valid California Guard Card and a valid BSIS Firearm Permit.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all BSIS requirements for armed security officers.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience in retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement preferred.
  • Knowledge of California laws regarding citizen's arrest, use of force, and detention.
  • Strong observational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, or patrol for long periods.
  • Must be able to respond physically to incidents, including suspect pursuits and detentions.
  • Occasionally required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed primarily in active retail environments with high foot traffic.
  • Exposure to stressful or emergency situations may occur.
