Job description

Our client is an established leader in fire protection and life safety solutions, providing inspection, testing, maintenance, installation, and repair services for critical fire and life safety systems.

We are seeking a Fire Alarm Inspector to join their team in Apex, NC. This is a great opportunity for a fire and life safety professional who enjoys working in the field, interacting with customers, and ensuring critical life safety systems are operating properly and meeting applicable code requirements.

Job Summary
The Fire Alarm Inspector will be responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on fire alarm and suppression life safety systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fire protection systems and NFPA requirements, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate professionally with customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Inspect systems in commercial, industrial, and residential facilities to verify proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Test fire alarm system components and verify system functionality.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and document deficiencies or issues with fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Ensure inspection and service activities are completed accurately and in accordance with applicable NFPA requirements.
  • Provide customers with clear explanations regarding system operation, deficiencies, required maintenance, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Educate customers on fire alarm system functionality, best practices, and emergency response procedures when appropriate.
  • Complete inspection reports, service documentation, activity records, and other required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Manage assigned jobs and inspections efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate with customers regarding scheduling, job progress, findings, and service needs.
  • Follow all applicable safety policies, procedures, and fire/life safety regulations.
  • Properly maintain and care for company vehicles, tools, equipment, lifts, and other assigned resources.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive customer experience while representing the company in the field.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in fire alarm inspection, testing, service, maintenance, or a related fire/life safety field preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and fire/life safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm and/or fire suppression systems.
  • NICET Level I or higher is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection findings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work with your hands for extended periods.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Comfortable working in commercial, industrial, residential, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work in conditions that may include noise, dust, heat, cold, low-light environments, and other job-site conditions.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use appropriate fall protection and other safety equipment when required.
Compensation: $30-$40/hr, based on experience
