Job Description

The NBC News Digital Newsgathering unit is looking for an Associate Producer to join our video team. This is a wonderful opportunity to work at the core of NBC News’s newsgathering operation in a highly collaborative environment, producing short-form video content for NBCNews.com and mobile and social platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with NBC News producers and editors in New York and across NBC News bureaus on the acquisition, selection, editing, publishing and distribution of live and on-demand video content.
  • Monitor and review incoming feeds, NBC off-air and digital streaming channels to identify compelling video and newsworthy moments.
  • Edit user-generated videos and raw feeds, adding graphics to enhance context and reporting.
  • Write text to be used for headlines and captions as well as on-screen graphics.
  • Tag video content with editorially relevant metadata.
  • Select, edit and publish images to promote video clips.
  • Resurface relevant past interviews and footage from the archives.
  • Help teams identify and address problems quickly when they arise.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and weekends as news dictate.
Qualifications
  • One or more years of experience producing and editing video for digital, social and/or mobile platforms.
  • Familiarity with nonlinear editing systems such as Avid and Premiere.
  • Strong journalistic writing skills and editorial judgment.
  • Familiarity with AP Style and SEO best practices.
  • Experience with or familiarity with content management/online publishing systems.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in current events and a superior eye for spotting compelling video.
  • Experience crafting fair and accurate headlines and informative captions.
  • Basic photo editing skills.
  • Speedy decision-making and quick reactions to newsworthy topics.
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Ability to take direction well and provide self-direction.
  • Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments well under extreme deadlines.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication or another discipline emphasizing storytelling and multimedia creation, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Further background in broadcast news production.
  • Experience with Avid video editing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of NBC News policies, guidelines and practices.

  • Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
