Job Summary / Overview

 
The Electrical Engineer supports the design, development, and execution of electrical engineering activities for EPC projects from conceptual design through commissioning and project turnover. This role provides technical expertise in power generation, distribution, electrical equipment selection, and construction support to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, project specifications and applicable industry standards.
 
The Electrical Engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, construction, procurement, vendors, and commissioning personnel to deliver reliable electrical systems that support safe and efficient facility operations.

Manage Electrical Engineering Activities:

·         Oversee engineering activities performed by others as the official stamping entity.
·         Prepare detailed scopes of work and execution plans for Electrical Execution
·         Budget oversight including Engineering, Materials, Quantities and Construction
Electrical Engineering Design

·         Develop and review electrical system designs for industrial and energy projects. 
·         Prepare and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, cable schedules, and load lists. 
·         Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit studies, voltage drop calculations, and equipment sizing. 
·         Support development of grounding, lighting, and lightning protection systems. 
·         Review electrical specifications, drawings, and vendor documentation. 
Power Distribution Systems

·         Support design of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems. 
·         Review switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and motor control applications. 
·         Coordinate electrical interfaces with process, mechanical, civil, and instrumentation disciplines. 
·         Ensure electrical systems comply with operational and reliability requirements. 
Equipment Engineering

·         Evaluate electrical equipment specifications and technical bid packages. 
·         Review vendor drawings and provide technical comments. 
·         Assist Procurement with technical evaluations and vendor clarifications. 
·         Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and equipment inspections as required. 
Construction Support

·         Provide engineering support during construction activities. 
·         Review Requests for Information (RFIs) related to electrical scope. 
·         Support resolution of field engineering issues and installation conflicts. 
·         Coordinate with construction teams to ensure electrical installations comply with project requirements. 
Commissioning & Startup Support

·         Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities. 
·         Support energization planning and startup procedures. 
·         Assist with electrical system testing and equipment verification. 
·         Participate in punch list resolution and system turnover documentation

Documentation & Technical Reviews

·         Prepare and review engineering calculations and technical reports. 
·         Maintain accurate engineering records and design revisions. 
·         Support development of as-built documentation. 
·         Review technical procedures and electrical operating documentation. 
Quality & Compliance

·         Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes and standards. 
·         Support QA/QC inspections for electrical installations. 
·         Promote adherence to company safety policies and industry best practices. 
·         Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, and applicable local regulations. 
Coordination with Project Teams

·         Collaborate with engineering, construction, commissioning, procurement, and operations teams. 
·         Interface with clients, contractors, vendors, and OEMs. 
·         Participate in project meetings and provide electrical engineering expertise. 
·         Support multidisciplinary design reviews and constructability reviews. 
Scheduling & Reporting

·         Support project schedules and engineering deliverables. 
·         Coordinate engineering milestones with Project Controls. 
·         Identify project risks related to electrical systems and recommend mitigation strategies. 
·         Provide regular progress updates to project leadership. 

Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
·         Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
·         OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification a plus.

Education, Experience, and/or Training

·         Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. 
·         Minimum 8-12 years of electrical engineering experience. 
·         Experience supporting EPC projects within energy, industrial, chemical, water, or infrastructure markets preferred. 
·         Experience with medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems. 
·         Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and startup activities preferred.
·         Experience in Managing Electrical engineering activities
·         Bilingual English and Spanish a Plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems. 
·         Knowledge of power distribution, motor control, and electrical protection systems. 
·         Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and wiring schematics. 
·         Knowledge of PIP, NEC, IEEE, NFPA, IEC, and other applicable electrical standards. 
·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
·         Strong organizational and project coordination skills. 
·         Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced EPC environment. 
·         High level of professionalism and integrity. 
·         Ability to maintain confidential information.

Special Requirements

Tools / Equipment
·         Computer
Software
·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
·         Experience with AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, or similar electrical engineering software preferred. 
·         Familiarity with engineering document management systems. 
·         AI awareness and openness to explore and implement evolving practices.
Physical
·         Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
·         Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
·         Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.
Environmental 
·         Combination of office and field environment. 
·         Exposure to industrial construction and operating plant conditions.
Work Schedule
·         Ability to work onsite at project locations.
·         Willingness to support extended work hours during critical turnover and commissioning phases.
·         May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.
Travel
·         Up to 25% of the time depending on project needs.
