Job description

Description

Our team and what we'll accomplish together

The Microwave (MW) Transport Planning team designs and delivers microwave solutions that connect our Network and Enterprise clients across Canada. You'll work with a collaborative team of MW and Transmission planners to plan, design, and optimize MW equipment deployments while ensuring regulatory compliance with licensing and MW standards. This role offers the opportunity to grow your planning expertise while taking ownership of critical projects that directly impact our network's reliability and capacity.

What you'll do

  • Develop and execute microwave transport designs for equipment deployments using Pathloss and GIS tools, ensuring alignment with network standards and enterprise client requirements

  • Conduct site surveys and feasibility assessments to validate design assumptions and identify optimal equipment placement and routing solutions

  • Ensure all designs comply with licensing requirements and microwave standards, conducting necessary regulatory assessments and documentation

  • Take ownership of projects from planning and design phase through delivery, tracking progress and managing stakeholder communication

  • Monitor and support operational performance of deployed microwave solutions, troubleshooting issues and recommending optimizations

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Professional Engineer (P-Eng) designation or demonstrated progress toward P-Eng.

  • 3+ years of experience in microwave transport planning, design, or network engineering

  • Experience with Pathloss and GIS tools for network design and analysis

  • Strong knowledge of microwave equipment and RF principles

  • Understanding of licensing requirements and microwave transmission standards

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Willingness to travel to remote sites for occasional field assessments and surveys

Great-to-haves

  • Experience with network planning tools beyond Pathloss (e.g., Atoll, Planet, or similar RF planning software)

  • Familiarity with satellite or emerging transport technologies

  • Experience developing tools or automating workflows using AI, Python, or data analysis to support planning and reporting

  • Knowledge of TELUS network infrastructure or similar large-scale carrier networks

Location: Anywhere in Canada

Advanced knowledge of English is required because you will most of the time interact in English with external parties (clients, suppliers, candidates, external partners, etc.); interact in English with internal parties (colleagues, internal partners, stakeholders, etc.); and work with IT tools whose interface is only accessible in English as part of this position's main responsibilities given its national scope.
