Job description

Plumber IV
Position Overview
As a Plumber IV, you'll serve as a master-level trade expert and senior field leader in commercial plumbing service, repair, installation, and retrofit, working closely with General Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to develop detailed project plans, resolve complex challenges proactively, and oversee high-profile plumbing work nationwide. With full mastery of commercial plumbing systems (potable water supply, drainage, waste, vent (DWV), gas, hydronic, fixtures, backflow prevention, medical gas), you'll lead crews on advanced jobs, ensure exceptional safety/quality/code compliance, mentor the team, and drive operational efficiency for reliable, sanitary plumbing solutions. Our people-first culture celebrates your expertise with advanced leadership opportunities, specialized training, recognition for mentoring excellence, and the profound satisfaction of guiding high-performing teams that deliver outstanding service coast-to-coast.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate directly with General Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Project Manager to develop project-specific task plans, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Conduct detailed site surveys, review procured equipment/subcontractors, and provide written reports on conditions, risks, and recommendations.
  • Perform accurate takeoffs, material estimates, and planning to ensure timely, cost-effective execution.
  • Coordinate and supervise on-site plumbing activities: scheduling, material control, rentals, daily progress tracking (e.g., job completion percentages), and full compliance with safety protocols, company policies, plumbing codes (IPC/UPC), and project specifications.
  • Oversee and direct crew performance-delegating tasks based on capabilities, guiding daily work, mentoring and training junior plumbers (Levels I-III), and providing continuing education on codes, best practices, and industry updates.
  • Conduct job inspections, ensuring adherence to Modigent standards, participating in system startups/testing, coordinating with engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and owners, and troubleshooting proactively to prevent issues.
  • Document incidents, complete weekly reports (safety/toolbox talks, production, preconstruction, etc.), recommend/implement corrective actions, and maintain thorough records for project closeout and accountability.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Yes - Provides direct leadership and supervision to plumbing crews and subordinate plumbers (Levels I-III); delegates tasks, coaches/mentors team members, monitors performance/safety/code compliance, resolves conflicts, and collaborates with other field leadership to ensure project alignment and excellence.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive commercial/industrial plumbing experience, with mastery of systems (water supply, drainage, waste, gas, fixtures, backflow prevention, etc.), codes (IPC/UPC), and advanced design/installation techniques.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid master plumber license (or ability to obtain in assigned jurisdiction) strongly preferred; backflow prevention certification a plus; valid driver's license and clean driving record required; OSHA 30-hour certification encouraged.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required to handle high-stress, fast-paced environments.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, mechanical rooms, rooftops, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, water, sewage, chemicals, and confined-space hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times-safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.

Required Skills
  • Mastery-level troubleshooting, repair, and installation across commercial plumbing systems (potable water, DWV, gas, hydronic, medgas, backflow).
  • Advanced project planning/takeoffs, crew supervision/training, performance monitoring.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, reporting/documentation, negotiation, and follow-through with customers, management, inspectors, and stakeholders.
  • Safety/code leadership, decision-making under pressure, professionalism, and self-motivation.
