Coogee Titanium is a U.S. subsidiary of Coogee, located in Ottawa, Illinois. We are a multinational organization specializing in bulk manufacture of chemicals and other goods. We are seeking an experienced Process Controls / I.E. Technician to actively support quality magnesium and titanium powder manufacturing through advanced skills in industrial electrical maintenance and by maintaining Coogee QMS and safety standards.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • To actively support the safe and efficient operation of magnesium and titanium powder production.
  • Install, commission and troubleshoot industrial control systems using PLCs.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) on PLC systems, control networks, instrumentation, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Diagnose, repair and perform routine maintenance of electrical equipment and power distribution systems including panel boards, transformers and MCCs.
  • Identify and define process improvement for potential inefficiencies and electrical problems.
  • Ensure a safe workplace is maintained at all times.
  • Actively support the production and maintenance needs of the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair industrial control systems and power distribution systems including electric motors, motor control devices, variable speed drives.
  • Support the production of magnesium powder by operating the atomizer panel during campaign runs.
  • Install and troubleshoot industrial electrical wiring; run wiring & install conduits according to ladder diagrams for motors, switches, instruments, variable speed drives, A/C, D/C, single phase and 3 phase.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings to troubleshoot and maintain equipment including AC/DC controls, and PLC I/O modules.
  • Perform plant PMs and work orders of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Conduct trouble shooting, maintenance and analysis on DCS, PLC and associated control equipment.
  • Perform systematic change control on PLC programs.
  • Perform installation and repairs of electrical equipment requiring up to 480V– run conduit, pull wires, terminate in breaker panels, etc.
  • Perform calibration of instruments, prepare calibration procedures and maintain calibration records.
  • Maintain Coogee QMS standards at all times: Comply with all site safety and permitting standards and policies (LOTO, confined space entry, hot work, etc) in addition to following operation procedures, site standards and policies to ensure safe and efficient operation of the site.
  • Schedule routine maintenance of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems and perform system checks in conjunction with maintenance technician.
  • Act as team lead and provide electrical maintenance troubleshooting as needed. Work with process engineers and technicians to prepare equipment for operation, maintenance, cleaning and troubleshooting any problems.
  • Participate as active member of the Emergency Response team as per Emergency Response Manual.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 4 years’ experience with PLC systems, industrial maintenance and computer control systems.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in electrical systems (starters, fuses, contacts and relays) and circuits.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in advanced I/O, PLC networking, programming and industrial automation.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing process and process improvement.
  • Proven experience with industrial electronics troubleshooting.
  • Qualified electrical training (apprenticeship, trade school, OTJ)

Competencies

  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, schematics, P&ID’s, drawings and ladder diagrams.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing industrial process instruments, electronics and test equipment including process control valves, controllers, transmitters, recorders and pneumatics.
