Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

Job Summary

Mass General Brigham (MGB) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Chair, Department of Radiology. MGB is an integrated academic healthcare system, which includes its two founding academic medical centers, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), three nationally renowned specialty hospitals, McLean (Psychiatry), Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and network, and Mass Eye and Ear (all Harvard teaching hospitals), seven community hospitals, multiple ambulatory sites, urgent care facilities, physician groups, an insurance company, home-based care, and long-term care services. MGB is one of the world's most renowned health systems and, as a non-profit organization, is deeply committed to its four-part mission of patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community.

Qualifications

As a senior physician executive leader within MGB, the Chair will lead this premier Department of Radiology, comprising over 1,110 faculty members and trainees. Across the Department, over 400 clinical faculty members provide outstanding expertise to over 3.7 million studies annually, with patient service revenue exceeding $5 billion. The Department is the leading radiology research enterprise in the nation, with a research portfolio exceeding $220 million in annual funding, supported by over 1,500 research faculty and staff, and is further academically distinguished with over 240 residents and fellows across seven residency and 16 fellowship programs.

The next Chair's unique challenge is to sustain and elevate this outstanding clinical and academic performance by bringing to fruition a fully integrated clinical and academic model that is critical for future success in today's evolving healthcare environment. Detailed operational expertise, sharp focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, ability to plan and execute system-wide strategies, commitment to developing high-functioning teams and future leaders, and deep financial acumen, are critical to this Chair's ability to deliver on Departmental and system-wide goals for MGB. In fulfillment of MGB's enterprise-wide integration strategy, the Department has made outstanding progress in capitalizing on the strengths and expertise of the radiology services at MGH, BWH, and in the community. The Chair will bring their informed vision and perspectives to further advance and deliver on integration goals.

The position requires an accomplished physician and leader with the ability to advance the clinical, teaching, research, and administrative activities of the Department, MGB, and HMS. The individual will be nationally and internationally recognized as an outstanding clinician, teacher, and investigator in the field of radiology. The successful candidate will have distinguished academic credentials, including an MD or MD/PhD degree, and accomplishments in research, training, and clinical expertise, commensurate with appointment to the faculty at the rank of Professor (strongly preferred) or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. The Chair of Radiology will report to MGB's President of Academic Medical Centers. This leader will be based in Boston, Massachusetts; relocation is required for this leadership role.
