Position Overview
Are you an aspiring structural innovator ready to transition from theoretical calculations to shaping the physical arteries of our communities? We are seeking a Bridge Design Engineer to join our premier Kansas City-based transportation team. In this role, you aren't just producing drawings; you are an essential contributor to the structural integrity and safety of critical infrastructure, working on a diverse portfolio that ranges from municipal bridge replacements to complex multi-level highway interchanges.

Core Responsibilities
  • Precision Engineering & Analysis: Execute rigorous structural design calculations for complex bridge systems, utilizing both traditional hand-calculation methods and advanced engineering software to ensure uncompromising safety and performance.
  • Advanced Digital Delivery: Master and apply industry-leading analysis and Bentley-based design software to architect high-fidelity models and technical documentation for diverse transportation projects.
  • Multidisciplinary Synergy: Partner seamlessly with internal project leads and cross-functional teams to integrate structural solutions with roadway, hydraulic, and geotechnical requirements.
  • Project Stewardship: Prepare comprehensive quantity takeoffs and technical reports to support cost estimation, bid evaluations, and strategic project planning.
  • Quality & Compliance: Conduct thorough reviews of project submittals and shop drawings, ensuring every detail aligns with stringent DOT standards and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Field & Stakeholder Engagement: Support coordination efforts with external stakeholders and participate in field involvements to gain a 360-degree understanding of the project lifecycle from concept to construction.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a dedicated emphasis on Structural Engineering.
  • Technical Foundation: A robust understanding of structural engineering principles as they specifically apply to bridge design and transportation infrastructure.
  • Operational Excellence: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments and meet critical project milestones without sacrificing technical accuracy.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a variety of project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or Engineer Intern (EI) designation.
  • Software Expertise: Direct experience with Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation, or similar structural analysis and modeling platforms.
  • Industry Exposure: Previous internship or professional experience within transportation or bridge-specific design sectors.
