Job title: Project EngineerAbout the Role:

The Project Engineer plays a critical role in the successful execution and delivery of construction projects by bridging the gap between estimating, engineering, and field operations. This position is responsible for overseeing project engineering activities, ensuring that bid documents are accurately translated into, purchase orders, subcontracts, shop drawings and material procurement. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to maintain project schedules, control costs, and manage change orders effectively. By applying engineering principles and project coordination skills, the role ensures that all technical aspects of the project meet quality standards and client expectations. Ultimately, the Project Engineer contributes to the seamless integration of estimating and construction processes, driving projects to completion on time and within budget.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited University
  • Proven experience in project engineering within the construction industry.
  • Experience understanding and reading FDOT construction plans
  • Strong knowledge of project coordination, cost estimation, and change order management.
  • Familiarity with project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera (P6)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with Bluebeam
  • Prior involvement in large-scale commercial or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices, FDOT Standards and Specifications
  • Strong communication and leadership skills demonstrated through previous project management roles.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist PM’s in coordination &/or input in support of other departments.
  • Transition of Estimating
  • Involved in material procurement process from purchasing to submittal to material release
  • Invoicing (monthly billing) (A/R)
  • Approving certain invoices from Subs/Vendors (A/P)
  • Understanding project scope, budget, and deadlines
  • Reviewing construction plans and preparing take-offs and establishing quantities for material purchasing
  • Understand and manage document controls and distribution both internally and externally
  • Develop and transmittal of appropriate correspondence required by project (RFI, RFM, etc.)
  • Prepare and manage cost estimations, budgets, and change orders to maintain financial control over projects.
  • Frequent field visits to aid in resolving field issues, report on progress, safety and quantity verification
  • Coordinate with designers, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Utilize project management tools such as Microsoft Project/Primavera to track progress, update schedules, and report on project status

Engineering construction skills are essential for interpreting construction plans and ensuring technical accuracy throughout the project lifecycle. Cost estimation and change order management skills enable the engineer to maintain budgetary control and adapt to project modifications efficiently.
