Job description

Job Overview
Hubbell's Boonton, NJ location is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join their leadership team! In this role, you will be eading the Manufacturing Engineering group for the Utility Automation Business Unit supporting electronic circuit board production, electronics system test, large electro-mechanical assembly for medium voltage switchgear products such as Reclosers and Capacitor Switches, and high voltage test operations.
Primary functions include management of approximately 5 direct reports, design and implementation of manufacturing processes, maintaining manufacturing documentation, designing fixtures used in the work cells, and execution of necessary continuous improvement and automation projects for the BU.
A Day In The Life
  • Work closely with Design Engineering team to design manufacturing processes for the launch of new products and product changes. All aspects of process design, fixture development, work instruction creation must be covered from design to fabrication to implementation
  • Lead New Product Development activity from a manufacturing standpoint including PFMEA, Quality Control Planning, Measurement Systems design and deployment
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews with engineering to ensure manufacturability of all designs
  • Own raw material, semi-finished material, and finished goods material setup in ERP system: Set up Bills of Material (BOMs), create new part numbers, establish routing instructions etc.
  • Manage ECOs (Engineering-Change-Orders) and CARs (Corrective Action Requests) and modify respective BOMs, Work Instructions and other documentation to fully implement
  • Modify standard work instructions and documentation for process and product changes as needed
  • Design solder temperature profiles and other manufacturing related guidance on reflow oven and selective solder processes
  • Champion continuous improvement activities to optimize manufacturing processes through Kaizen events and value stream mapping to reduce cycle time and increase efficiency
  • Drive the principles of lean manufacturing and establish a lean culture to reduce waste and streamline manufacturing processes
  • Provides hands on configuration/diagnosis/repair of a variety of production equipment. Assess new equipment needs, evaluate vendor proposals, recommend solutions and develop capital requests
  • Develop and implement ergonomic changes in the manufacturing setting
  • Collaborate with the Quality Manager to create and maintain Quality Assurance programs throughout the production operation
  • Initiate and drive Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for process and manufacturing product issues and execute corrective actions
  • Provide technical support/training to direct labor employees

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • BS in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 5+ years experience in an Electronics, Electro-Mechanical, or relevant manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record for handling new product launches through PFMEA assembly line creation, ERP setup work etc.
  • Proven track record of conceptualizing and implementing Test automation framework on the manufacturing floor to reduce takt times and improve process quality,
  • Must be fluent with mechanical 3D CAD package.
  • Must be able to read schematics to troubleshoot board level issues
  • Experience with Electronics and manufacturing of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Assemblies.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • An understanding of lean tools and concepts is essential, i.e. time studies, kaizen events, Value Stream Maps, etc
  • A continuous improvement mindset is critical
  • Must be familiar with ISO 9000
  • Fluency in one of the Test Automation framework tools (Python, Selenium, Labview, etc.) is a plus
