    Position Overview
     

    The Maintenance Lead is responsible for the oversight of all Maintenance systems at the facility, ensuring their safety, reliability, and efficient operation. This role provides direct leadership of the maintenance team, manages preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and supports continuous improvement initiatives related to plant mechanical, electrical systems, process control, and instrumentation. The Maintenance Lead works closely with other Site and Regional departments/roles to minimize downtime and ensure safe and compliant operation of the plant. 

    Job Responsibilities
     
    • Lead and mentor a team of trade technicians, providing in role, on the job training and support to enhance their skills and technical expertise. 
    • Provide performance feedback, coaching, and development opportunities to team members through a variety of work experiences. 
    • Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. 
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems, including rotating equipment, power distribution, control systems, sensors, and field instrumentation. 
    • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies for plant equipment. 
    • Ensure that all maintenance work is properly documented in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including equipment history, work order completion, and calibration records in SAP. 
    • Analyze data from the CMMS and other sources to identify trends, predict equipment failures, and optimize maintenance strategies. 
    • Ensure that all systems are maintained in compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies. 
    • Ensure that maintenance activities comply with applicable mechanical and electrical codes, safety regulations, and company policies. 
    • Ensure that safe work practices are followed during work, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash protection, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 
    • Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses to identify and address potential hazards. 
    • Coordinate with Operations and other departments to plan and execute maintenance activities, minimizing disruption to production. 
    • Oversee contractors performing maintenance work, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. 
    • Ensure cost-effective procurement of materials and services, maintaining quality and compliance with specifications. 
    • Prioritization of work orders, ensuring timely and effective execution of maintenance tasks. 
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing the reliability and efficiency of maintenance systems. 
    • Lead efforts to standardize maintenance procedures, improve work processes, and implement new technologies in maintenance systems. 
    Minimum Qualifications
     
    • 7-10 years of experience in Industrial setting: Chemical or Oil and Gas Industry.
    • 3-5 years of planning/scheduling experience within an industrial setting. 
    • Leadership experience, including managing trade teams.
    • Proficiency in CMMS: SAP, EAM or Maximo. SAP knowledge required.
    • Proficiency in MS Office 365 suite and basic project management tools.
    • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical codes (e.g., CSA, NEC), instrumentation standards (ISA), and industry regulations.
    • Proven ability to develop and implement maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and performance.

    Education:

    • Journeyman Electrician, Millwright, Instrumentation Trade Certificate or related required 
    • Technical Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field is an asset.
    • Professional certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) is an asset.

    Additional SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

    • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
    • Physical ability to conduct field inspections, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
    • Experience with root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and calibration practices.
    • A safety-first mindset with a proven track record of maintaining high safety standards in maintenance operations.
    • Ability to respond to emergencies and work on-call as required to support 24/7 operations.
    • Must be physically capable of frequent field inspections, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
    • Comfortable and physically able to spend significant periods (25%+) in the field (job walkdowns, interaction with team to ensure quality of planning, etc.) including accessing equipment at heights, bending, and confined space entry, in all weather conditions.
    • Requires substantial on-site presence, with the role being unsuitable for remote work arrangements.
    • Fit for Duty; this is a safety-sensitive position, requiring a high degree of responsibility and alertness to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

    • Physical:  Requires the ability to wear full and half face respirators.  Must be able to work in all weather conditions.  Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, reaching, handling, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing. Possess the ability to handle weights up to 55 lbs. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors. 
    • Aptitudes:  must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand coordination.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. 
    • Temperaments:  Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
