Job description

Monitors and evaluates programs and patient status in order to facilitate  goals. The Diabetics Nutrition Educator assesses the nutritional status of referred patients and consults with hospital personnel in coordinating diet therapy. 

  • Post dietetic internship
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • ADA Registration once licensed, Licensed or CDE certification by American Diabetes, Provisional Louisiana State Dietician Association Nutritionist
  1. Diabetes Education
    1. Assesses the nutritional status of patients referred and actively participates as a member of the diabetes team in planning, directing, and supervising comprehensive care plans for referred patients. Consults with hospital personnel in coordinating all phases of prescribed diet therapy for patients in order to ensure care plan compliance.
    2. Demonstrates the ability to assess the nutritional status of the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations by interpreting anthropometric measures (height and weight) and laboratory nutrition assessment values. Maintains awareness of the age of the patient served when documenting care plans and follow-up services and when educating patients and patient care providers.
    3. Demonstrates knowledge of the infant, pediatric, adolescent and adult growth and development patterns, and of the aging process, and how aging affects the senses, physiological changes, and psychological development of the geriatric patient.
  2. Quality
    1. Develops programs, processes, and documentation systems to maintain accreditation status as a provider and sponsor of high quality nursing continuing education activities.
    2. Complies with mandatory regulatory agency training requirements and participates in continuous improvement activities as assigned in an effort to ensure the provision of high quality health care services.
    3. Analyzes departmental data, prepares reports, and monitors departmental records.
    4. Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance by remaining current with the latest trends in field of expertise through participation in job-relevant seminars and workshops, attendance at professional conferences, and affiliations with national and state professional organizations.
  3. Collaboration and Partnership
    1. Develops positive relationships between the hospital and community agencies, special interest and civic groups, and professional affiliations by acting as a hospital representative. Works through civic groups and public education activities to improve community health and foster the hospital's image as a leader in the health care industry.
  4. Other Duties As Assigned
    1. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
