What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Marketing Lead, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Marketing Lead, you need expertise in marketing strategy, campaign management, data analysis, and a bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field. Proficiency with digital marketing tools such as Google Analytics, CRM platforms, and marketing automation systems is typically required, along with certifications like Google Ads or HubSpot. Leadership, creativity, and strong communication skills help you drive team performance and foster collaboration across departments. These skills are crucial to effectively execute marketing initiatives, adapt to evolving trends, and achieve business growth objectives.

How does a Marketing Lead typically collaborate with other departments to achieve campaign success?

A Marketing Lead regularly works cross-functionally with teams such as sales, product development, and customer success to ensure that marketing campaigns align with business objectives and customer needs. This often involves organizing strategy sessions, sharing market insights, and coordinating campaign timelines to maximize impact. Effective communication and collaboration are key, as the Marketing Lead must gather input from various stakeholders, integrate feedback, and adapt strategies to ensure unified messaging and brand consistency across all channels.

What is a Marketing Lead?

A Marketing Lead is a professional responsible for overseeing a company's marketing strategies and campaigns to drive brand awareness, customer acquisition, and revenue growth. They manage a team of marketers, coordinate with other departments, and ensure that marketing initiatives are aligned with overall business goals. Marketing Leads analyze market trends, develop marketing plans, allocate budgets, and measure the effectiveness of campaigns to optimize results. Their role often involves both strategic planning and hands-on execution.

What is the difference between Marketing Lead vs Marketing Manager?

Growth Marketing Lead

Amae Health

San Francisco, CA

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Job description

The Problem

Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for.

What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. This is a frontier problem, and it requires frontier science and care delivery to solve.

We are developing all of it. The care, the science, the technology.

Who We Are

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation delivering specialty outpatient care for people with severe mental illness through high-acuity, in-person clinics nationwide.

Our integrated model brings psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community support together under one roof. Leading health systems—including New York-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit—collaborate with us to expand this level of care.

Alongside care delivery, we are building the science and technology the field has long lacked—proprietary clinical protocols, novel measurement, and an AI-driven data platform designed for severe mental illness.

The impact: fewer hospitalizations, greater stability, and more people living meaningful lives in their communities.

The Team

We are clinicians, operators, technologists, and scientists who chose Amae because the problem is hard and the stakes are real. We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system

Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics their work measures.

Every function—finance, product, people, growth, technology—exists to serve one goal: better outcomes for the people we care for.

The Role

We're hiring our first dedicated marketing hire — someone who can build and own the full marketing stack for Amae. You'll work directly with our co-founders to shape Amae's brand voice and positioning, and own end-to-end execution across every channel.

This is a creative, builder role. You're the right person for this if you're an AI-native operator who uses tools to multiply your output, have a genuine point of view on brand, and thrive in environments where the playbook doesn't exist yet.

This is a full-time onsite role based in either our San Francisco office in Cow Hollow or our NYC Union Square office.

What You'll Work On

  • Demand generation and referral growth: Channel strategy across SEO/GEO/SEM, email, social, and events — with a focus on driving referrals from health system partners and clinicians
  • Content and thought leadership: Build and execute a content engine that positions Amae as the authority on serious mental illness care — blog, LinkedIn, newsletters, and more
  • Brand voice and positioning: Collaborate with co-founders and our PR firm to evolve Amae's brand identity, messaging architecture, and tone of voice as we scale
  • Patient and family marketing: Develop campaigns and materials that speak to patients and families with clarity, empathy, and honesty
  • B2B marketing: Develop campaigns and materials that speak to our health plan and health system partners and potential referring providers.
  • Event marketing: Supporting the design of our presence at clinical conferences, health system events, and community touchpoints
  • Marketing infrastructure: Stand up the tools, workflows, and measurement systems that will underpin Amae's marketing function long-term

What You'll Have

  • 4–6 years of marketing experience, with at least 1+ years as a solo or first marketing hire at a startup (sub-200 people)
  • Genuinely AI-native — you've built real workflows using tools like Jasper, Perplexity, Clay, Surfer, or equivalents to multiply your output, not just experiment with them
  • Demonstrated experience shaping and evolving brand voice — including leading or contributing to rebrands, developing tone-of-voice guidelines, and adapting positioning as a company grows and changes
  • Own content and SEO/GEO, with execution supported by a vendor
  • Comfortable marketing to both a B2B audience (clinicians, health systems) and a B2C or B2B2C audience simultaneously
  • Bias toward measurement — you know what's working and why
  • Thrives in ambiguity — you don't need a marketing team, a budget template, or a fully built techstack to get started

Nice to Have

  • Background in healthcare, digital health, or a mission-driven consumer brand
  • Experience ghostwriting or producing founder-voice content
  • Familiarity with the behavioral health or SMI landscape

What We're Building

Most healthcare companies ask you to optimize an existing system. We're building one that has never existed.

  • A national care model designed for the highest-acuity patients in behavioral health.
  • Precision medicine for severe mental illness, using multimodal clinical, behavioral, and social data to personalize treatment.
  • A clinical operating system that integrates longitudinal data, real-time patient signals, and purpose-built tools into a single decision layer.
  • New science and measurement frameworks to define what real outcomes look like in SMI—stability, functional improvement, and hospitalizations avoided.
  • A health-system collaboration model proving coordinated SMI care can work at scale.

If you want to maintain the status quo, this isn't the place. If you want to build what doesn't exist yet—and change how an entire population receives care—keep reading.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation includes a base salary of $140,000 - $160,000 (based on level & experience) plus equity ownership, giving you a meaningful stake in Amae's growth. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, parental leave, and programs built around employee well-being. We'll share specifics during the interview process.

Amae Health is building the care platform, the precision medicine, and the frontier science that severe mental illness has never had. If you want to be part of creating something this hard and this important, something that has never been done, we'd like to talk.

What We Value

We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It's how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.

We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.

We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.

Your job isn't done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don't hide behind titles or org charts.

We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don't do blame.

We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.
