The Senior Engineer, Linear Assets is accountable for the specification, design, and commissioning of electric Transmission linear assets connecting EDTI substations. This role encompasses both aerial and underground lines, including highly specialized high-pressure fluid filled (HPFF) pipe-type cables.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Perform and authenticate linear asset engineering designs, ensuring compliance with EPCOR standards, APEGA guidelines, and industry codes
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including developing scopes of work and reviewing inspection and test plans
  • Drive technical change initiatives by developing and maintaining engineering standards, philosophies, templates, specifications and risk mitigation
  • Review and provide recommendations on internal and external design packages, studies, reports, and as-built documentation
  • Represent EPCOR as a technical expert in external committees (IEEE, CEATI, IEC, AESO, AUC) and internal cross-functional groups
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers, technologists, EITs, and students
  • Conduct and review technical studies (e.g., grounding, ampacity, cable pulling, etc.) to inform design decisions
  • Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting needs (tools, software, training), and alignment with Transmission Engineering strategies

What's required to be successful

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, registered with APEGA
  • 8-10 years of design experience in linear assets engineering
  • 5+ years of experience performing active, on-site field support for construction projects
  • Knowledge and experience with design, maintenance, installation commissioning of High Pressure Fluid Filled (HPFF) transmission lines and forced oil cooling systems will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of City of Edmonton codes and standards
  • Knowledge of all industry linear asset standards (AEUC, IEEE, AESO, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electric Office or other GIS systems, IVARA, P6 and/or other work management tools, such as MS Project
  • Strong diagnostic skills required to manage complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage budgets
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to advise, mentor, and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills
