About eShocan
eShocan is an engineering and technology services company supporting leading automotive OEMs and mobility organizations. We connect experienced engineering professionals with opportunities to contribute to advanced vehicle development, manufacturing, launch readiness, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
We are seeking a hands-on Plant Vehicle Engineering - Fastening & Joining Engineer to support vehicle launch readiness, production quality, issue resolution, and continuous improvement within a vehicle assembly plant.
Position Overview
The Plant Vehicle Engineering - Fastening & Joining Engineer will serve as a technical subject matter expert and cross-functional partner for fastening, welding, joining, bonding, and related production concerns.
This role will focus on protecting product intent, identifying and resolving production issues, performing root cause analysis, validating corrective actions, and improving build quality during vehicle launches and ongoing production.
Key Responsibilities
Fastening & Torque Support
  • Serve as the Plant Vehicle Engineering subject matter expert for fastening-related production concerns.
  • Support investigations involving torque strategy, clamp load, joint integrity, tooling interaction, and fastening data.
  • Analyze torque-to-spec performance, torque-angle behavior, fastener seating, joint stack variation, thread engagement, and tool-access concerns.
  • Interpret torque traces and fastening data to identify abnormal joint behavior, tooling issues, process variation, or product design opportunities.
  • Partner with DRE, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, and Suppliers to resolve issues and validate permanent corrective actions.
Welding & Joining Support
  • Support the resolution of spot-weld, laser-weld, and joining-related quality concerns.
  • Participate in visual inspections, vehicle teardowns, weld audits, destructive testing, and vehicle-level investigations.
  • Identify concerns related to weld location, size, appearance, penetration, expulsion, fit-up, material stack-up, coatings, access, and process variation.
  • Provide plant feedback for joining strategies, inspection standards, repair guidance, DFMA reviews, PFMEA input, control-plan reviews, and lessons learned.
Bonding & Adhesive Application Support
  • Support issue resolution for adhesive, bonding, urethane, and closure-related applications.
  • Evaluate surface preparation, bead location, application consistency, squeeze-out, cure behavior, contamination risks, and overall process robustness.
  • Investigate bond-related defects, water leaks, squeaks and rattles, fit concerns, and durability issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, process, quality, and materials teams to identify and validate corrective actions.
Launch, Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead or support root cause analysis, containment activities, corrective-action development, breakpoint coordination, and validation of permanent fixes.
  • Analyze production data, audit findings, teardown results, torque data, repair trends, supplier concerns, and plant feedback.
  • Support prototype, pilot, launch, and production-ramp builds.
  • Participate in issue tracking, technical triage, readiness reporting, containment activities, and lessons-learned reviews.
  • Drive improvements that reduce defects, improve first-time quality, minimize rework, and strengthen production consistency.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, vehicle launch, plant vehicle engineering, fastening, joining, body, general assembly, or a related technical area.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Welding, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in automotive launch, manufacturing, product engineering, or plant vehicle engineering will be considered.
  • Hands-on experience supporting fastening, joining, assembly, body, general assembly, or related vehicle production processes.
  • Strong understanding of fastening fundamentals, including:
    • Torque and clamp load
    • Friction and joint stack-up
    • Tooling interaction
    • Thread engagement
    • Fastener failure modes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, fastening requirements, weld callouts, and process documentation.
  • Experience analyzing production data, quality data, torque or fastening data, teardown findings, repair trends, and plant feedback.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as Red X, Six Sigma, 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, DOE, or similar methodologies.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Suppliers, and plant leadership.
  • Ability and willingness to spend more than 50% of working time on the plant floor.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 20%.
  • Willingness to relocate to Warsaw, Indiana.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fastening systems, torque/clamp-load analysis, and fastening data interpretation.
  • Experience with spot welding, laser welding, adhesive bonding, urethane applications, or vehicle teardown and inspection activities.
  • Experience supporting production issue resolution, launch builds, containment activities, engineering changes, and corrective-action validation.
  • Knowledge of weld-quality evaluation, joined-structure inspection, adhesive bonding, or urethane applications.
  • Understanding of materials, coatings, stack-up variation, joining interfaces, and the impact of product and process variation on vehicle quality.
  • Experience supporting assembly lines and improving build quality, process stability, and production robustness.
